This is the classic case where the house is good but the surroundings are not. The pool was heated and provided a few hours of fun for the kids. It isn’t a huge pool, so beware that older kids may become bored with it. However it was great overall—especially for our 8-year-olds. The property itself is clean and pleasant. It may not be considered luxurious by some standards—note especially the slow combined washer and dryer in the kitchen—and I have to admit I expected slightly more for the high cost of the rental. But still. It was a well-appointed, comfortable house. And without visiting a bunch of other listings in person, it may simply be what is available in the area. What concerns me about the listing is the environment around the property. It is by a beach whose view is tarnished by jet skis for rent, heavy concrete ruins, and industrial equipment just hanging out there in the sand: tractors, front/end loaders, etc. It’s a grungy, desolate beach with no visitors. It is a 5 minute walk from the house to get to nicer sands, most notably a beach club just to the right of the house. In general, though, the environment around the house is in a bit of a no-mans land. There is graffiti on the exterior walls of the house facing the beach. It is a 15 minute walk to the main promenade of San Pedro. But it’s not a pleasant walk, as it is full of abandoned and fenced-off areas, undeveloped and unpaved walkways, and a general look of neglect. I expected beauty in Marbella.
