This cottage is in the perfect location! Pubs in the doorstep, beautiful surroundings, easy access to local attractions. The cottage itself if very well maintained, well equipped and very comfortable. We came with a 2 and a 5 year old and the bedrooms were spacious! We used a toddler bed and this would have easily fitted in the main or the second bedroom. An option of a stair-gate would have made this even better as the rooms open directly into the stairs (as with most cottages). Stairs leading up to the cottage are a little steep but doable with children. Overall we would 100% recommend this cottage!
Fantastic location and lovely cosy place to stay. The steps to the outside garden were very steep so we didn't use that much. The only minor issue were getting some provisions e.g milk, bread etc. We came by train so we were limited by the amount we could bring with us and there is only a small shop selling essential items open untill 6pm in the village. Having said that, there were plenty of places to eat out.

The cottage looks to have very recently been renovated and modernised with a lovely bathroom and a compact but well equipped kitchen. The location is ideal for exploring Derbyshire with lots of places to visit and things to do very close by. Great to have a king size bed with good quality bed linen and lovely Egyptian cotton towels. This cottage was also ideal for us to bring our 2 small dogs along. The main photo of the cottage online is very poor and does not do the cottage justice. From the picture it is difficult to see Rose Cottage and I thought the property was actually the one next door. When I was originally searching for a holiday cottage I had discounted Rose Cottage because I was not sure which property it was and the picture seemed a bit blurry. It was only later when I went back and looked at the interior photos that I chose this property because of the lovely interior. The little garden terrace is lovely to catch the afternoon sun.A couple of very small things is there is no door mat by the front door (we had muddy boots). It would be helpful if there were some instructions for the washing machine and the Hive heating control please.

The cottage is ideal for someone who wants a base to explore the local area. The equipment provided in the kitchen is quite basic but is certainly adequate if you're not expecting anything fancy.Pros: hard floors throughout the ground floor ideal for muddy boots and dogs.Very easy to "dog proof" the living area as there was very little clutter and there is a door to the staircase so pets can easily be prevented from going upstairs.Shower was amazing, great for when you get back from a wet day out.Location is ideal if you like pub food.Cons: There is no door separating the hallway from the living area, so you have to restrain all dogs/ kids every time you open the door. The second bedroom is obviously designed to be a kids room, so the clothes rails are too small to hang adult clothes.Minimal consumables provided, bins are very small. There is only one local shop, which sells the basics but the nearest supermarket is 2 miles away up 1 in 8 hill or 3 miles on the level.

Very nice cottage that is well equipped and thoughtfully decorated.
Very nice cottage that is well equipped and thoughtfully decorated. Local town full of nice pubs and cafes and the local general store is great too! Be mindful of arriving during peak (pub) times as parking can be iffy, but we generally found a spot once acclimated. Why the 4 stars you may ask? The check-in instructions are woefully unfit for purpose and caused no end of frustration when we tried to arrive, losing an hour of time, invading random properties trying to follow them, and the final kick was the mobile number on the check-in guide was unanswered. I would have given fewer stars if I didn't have a couple of days to calm down from the experience, but the cottage itself, once found, is indeed lovely!Regarding the check-in situation: The path leading to the house is !!NOT!! opposite the Boat Inn, it is the path BEFORE it - if you follow the guide, you will end up in the hills rummaging in the gardens of several cottages. Once I finally discovered the house by iterating through every side path and unlocked gate, the lockbox was !!NOT!! "at the bottom of the steps" - this was an area covered in ivy and I ruined a jacket digging endlessly under it. The lockbox is PAST the entrance door to the right and then around the corner on the left. Please, for the sanity of future guests, fix this! I have used self-check-in many dozens of times and never have been so mislead.
