The Grand isn't so grand anymore. Unfortunately, nowhere on the Expedia information on the Grand, presumably supplied by the hotel, was there a mention that food, bar, and brunch facilities were very sporadic. In fact, when we asked the receptionist on the afternoon of check-in, she told us as if we should already have known that, quite emphatically, and did not suggest any other venues in the area, something I thought wasn't good customer service. Luckily, I had lived in Nanaimo and had some idea where to go for meals.
The lobby would lead you to think it was going to be a rather upscale experience, though, when I saw the room rates, I didn't really expect this. However, the outside "garden area," was dried grass and no proper signage to indicate this was the garden area (see pictures on the website....very different.) I will not be staying here again, as I had planned to do, in the Fall, and I would not recommend this establishment to others. Disappointed.
