Love the location, it is right on 7-mile beach in Negril. Close to stores, bank, local foods and property can arrange for transportation to were you want to go. Very friendly staff, not crowded, security watchs out for you on the beach on on the property. Great wifi service but will gets slow when everyone is on it. Not every room has a television so ask when booking. I had a great time and look forword to going back.

WhiteSands Forever

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, placid atmosphere
Cons: bug bites
2011 Marks my 18th year in Negril,White Sands has continued to treat me as FAMILY! Ive lodged @ Whitesands 95% of the time and SURE,it's a difference from the stay @ other resorts ie.RIU,HEDONISM,POINT VILLIAGE and RONDELL VILLIAGE, all of which I stayed. In the past I have introduced over 50 friends & their friends to my what I call "Tropical Sanctuary".WhiteSands can cater to entertaining your wild group of friends, your Romantic flavor of just being w/your significant other or Just hanging Solo reading a book(or writing one)As the previous review stated, you must be open to "Exploration" The best time to go is off peak because it's commercialism @ it's lowest.Overall Whitesands is for Seasoned Travelers who will unwind and relax because thats the reason and purpose of "Vacation" note:(I stayed one year where we were 70 miles north of the eye of HURRICANE IVAN the staff of WHITESANDS were outstanding in their approach of comforting me and my guess. "you cant go wrong w/that type of service"

You get what you pay for

Cons: No free Internet
It would be more appropriate to call this a motel. On one hand, you get an uncomfortable bed and barely any water pressure. On the other, you have access to a piece of water front property that's nice and relaxing. The best perk is the Jerk Chicken guy that sets up shop outside at night. When you're hungry at night, you don't have to look very far to get great jerk chicken. You probably don't want to wander around that part of town at night anyway.

poor quality room

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, nice bar
I was definately apprehensive when we were shown to our room. Anyone could have gotten the dinky lock on the patio door open, and the front door frame was patched where the door had been kicked in before. Our air conditioner didn't work- it blew air, but didn't actually cool it. There weren' any windows in the bedroom, so it got pretty stuffy at night. I believe there was mold in the room since we both woke up with sinus headaches every AM and got congested whenever we were in the room. I could see where a smoke detector had been installed, but was no longer there. We were by the road, which was pretty loud. The location of the hotel on the beach was great, but I would rather pay a little more and stay somewhere nicer.

You have got to be kidding.

We booked a week at the White Sands Negril going by the pictures and reviews online. What an awful experience. We were shocked at the look of the place in person compared to the pictures posted here. It was nothing at all like the pictures. Nothing. And the reviews--did these people stay at the same place we did? We stayed there one night and then had to get out of there. The staff did work with us and actually helped us find a nicer place up the road that had the look and feel we wanted. So we were satisfied with that. But overall, not a place I'd recommend.

Meh

We read the reviews and knew we were getting a no frills hotel. Still, it was pretty rough living. The hotel provides good security at night, but crossing the street from the gardenside room to the beach, you get honked at by taxi drivers constantly. I recommend taking instant coffee and an electric kettle. We did that, and it saved us in the mornings. While there are tons of places to eat, it can be hard to know where to go on foot when you are starving. We ended up taking the complimentary restaurant shuttle to some nicer places to eat. The restaurant at White Sands is fine, but they never had jerk or any Jamaican food for lunch, only grilled cheese etc. Breakfast there was fine, but for 2 people expect to pay $* for breakfast. Overall we just got really worn down by the effort it took to get to the food, the beach, and relaxation which was our goal really didn't happen. Last thing, we walked to a reggae show on Friday night down the beach and on the way back we were robbed at knifepoint on the beach. We found out later that you should walk on the road at night. I was pretty disgusted that no one bothered to tell us that. Yet, no Jamaican we talked to was surprised that it happened. With a little courteous warning this never would have happened. We thought we were avoiding the hassle of the honking and hustling of the taxi drivers on the road. We felt like outsiders who did not know the ropes as this hotel has a lot of loyal customers. There were some helpful people at the hotel, but overall we did not have a great experience.

Had the time of my life

I had the pleasure of staying here at White Sands for my 40th birthday in september for 12 days and i long to return as soon as i can break away from the grind. I cant emphasize the quality of people that work here right from f and h running the show to j and l in house keeping and beach security and ofcourse t and t at the bar i fell in love with this country and its people back in 2001 on my 1st trip and again in september. The rooms are clean and spacious and cool no tvs no phones no internet so if thats what your looking for go elsewhere. The beach is just the icing on the cake its the widest cleanest and safest spot on 7-mile a true must see even if you dont stay here please stop in and see t at the bar for the weekly drink special and tell them bill #40 bones #41 from boston says one love and arie respect mon... Peace.
