Lack of cleanliness and run down - we only stayed 1 out of 5 nights

We booked 5 nights in this property and stayed only the first night before we were able to secure a hotel where we stayed the reminder of our holiday. Our primary issue was with the lack of cleanliness of the property. Second, the interior of this place looks and feels really run down. Our main issues with the cleanliness where: 1) While the primary surfaces had been wiped, the corners, edges of the rooms and hallways as well as most surfaces not directly in sight (e.g. under the bed) were full of dirt and hair 2) Many surfaces that are not directly used where full of dust 3) The bed linens had not been cleaned since the last use, they where stained, smelled used and we found hair in them that definitively did not belong to us (we are all not blond) 4) The inside of the fridge needed a deep clean that also removes dirt and food rests from the cracks / from below the glass shelves 5) The place felt to us really run down. The furniture is mostly a collection of left over, end of life pieces. The beds are coming apart . The mattress we slept in was absolutely end of life. The deck chairs are rusty. The fridge is held together by duct tape. Lastly, the tab water has a notable smell of rotten eggs. Non of us had the resolve to use this water for personal hygiene. We provided this info including a number of pictures to show all of this to the owner - who denies it all. We are not in the business of leaving bad reviews or trying to hurt anyone's business. Please be courteous. This does not constitute a genuine review. The guest arrived at the cottage quite late and vacated it around 10 am, leaving the doors ajar – not just unlocked, but wide open. Additionally, all the windows were left open, along with the lights and fans in every room. Despite attempts to contact the guest via calls and texts, they remained unresponsive for two days. It is imperative to note that all the claims made by the guest are baseless. Our cleaning staff routinely provides before-and-after photos, and I was astonished by the situation. I personally visited the property and took over 70 photos, which I subsequently shared with the guest. These images contradict the narrative presented by the guest. Communication with the guest has been open and frequent on my part, but the guest did not engage, possibly due to the security breach caused by leaving the doors open. Regrettably, there was a theft incident resulting in the disappearance of several valuable items, prompting us to file a police report. It's essential to mention that our furniture is brand new, and I have attached a Google Drive link for your reference. I encourage you to review the photos to form your own judgment. Upon further research, it has come to my attention that this guest has a history of similar incidents. I urge you to exercise caution when considering this guest for your property. We take pride in being a 5-star cottage with a premier host status, and this has been an exceptionally unusual interaction for us. Great Winter Getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our family winter vacation at this cottage. Our kids enjoyed the open main floor, unique house layout, and large decks outside. We had some initial challenges due to a large snowstorm just before our arrival, but communication with Wyck was fantastic and he was able to resolve things more than satisfactorily very quickly. The whole family is looking forward to visiting again soon!

Great place to stay with a group of friends. Lots of space and available sitting areas. Note that the stay does not include the garage with screened in area and extra sleeping. I figured was included because the pictures were included. Great stay otherwise.

Fun and Relaxing

Wonderfully equipped home in cottage country. I rented the property to spend time with family and everyone was happy with their accommodations. Everything from the fire pit out back to the crows nest outlook added to the experience. Very comfortable beds and quiet evenings made for a great sleep. The multiple decks surrounding the house and large yard made it easy for everyone to have their own space. Wifi was excellent and the quality entertainment center was a pleasant surprise. Definitely would go again.

Stay near Sauble/Wiarton

Two families totaling 9 stayed here. Lots of room. Beautiful rooftop lookout. For more than 6 you need to arrange extra Costco cots or with owner. Firepit and outdoor fireplace also nice. Was a hot week, but the place stayed cool with its unique contemporary design. Awesome wall supply of DVDs + Netflix/Amazon.

Grosszügig, gut ausgestattete Location mit toller Umgebung

Wir waren 6 Nächte im Haus und wirklich rundum zufrieden mit allem. Alles hat tip top funktioniert im Vorfeld, wenn auch die genauen Angaben zum Hauszutritt erst einen Tag vorher gesendet wurde. Die Region ist sehr freundlich, mitten in der Natur mit tollen kleinen Bademöglichkeiten mit seichtem Wasser. Das Haus ist riesig und verfügt über tolle Feuermöglichkeiten im abgeschotteten Hintergarten. Wir fühlten uns schnell wohl und können es nur weiterempfehlen.

Translation: Spacious, well-equipped location with great surroundings We stayed 6 nights in the house and really completely satisfied with everything. Everything worked perfectly beforehand, even though the exact details of how to enter the building were only sent. The region is very friendly, in the middle of nature with many great swimming opportunities with shallow water. The house is huge and has great fire opportunities in the secluded backyard. We quickly felt comfortable and can only recommend it. Owner : Thank you for being a great Melaine hope to you again soon.

Great stay with family!

We had a wonderful time at this cottage. Checkin was simple and Waaqas was always available for any questions. The cottage was spacious for 10 adults and very clean. Great location to explore Tobermory, Lions Head, and Wiarton. Loved our stay and will definitely book again!

Renter Beware

When we arrived for check in, the property was not ready. The owner thought our check in date was the next day. He apologized and we gave him time to fix the property, which took 7 hours. He also promised to refund us the night we could not use the house because he was cleaning. Unfortunately, I trusted him and did not contact VRBO. The rest of the trip was fine, the house as described. A while after we checked out, I contacted the owner about the refund. He said he had tried many options to send the money (I'm from the US and he's from Canada) and the best he could offer was a free night, which is not what we had agreed on. I then contacted VRBO, who told me because I did not contact them at first, again my fault, they could not do anything. Finally, I offered the owner to send me the refund via Paypal, which would work because it's an international money transfer. He was upset since I contacted VRBO (something I have the right to do as the traveler, and that I should have done in the first place) and he refused to send the refund. Finally, I was never reimbursed for the time I lost. He will probably reply to this review saying I am a liar and slandering me. All renters beware.

Hi Danie, It was a pleasure having you and your family at the cottage , thank you for your business. I have spent almost half a month trying to come to a resolution with you but we could not work out a resolution. What happened was Danie and her family arrived a day earlier and i showed the client the booking we had in our system / emails we got from VRBO. Due to a misunderstanding which was not caused by us. I offered an extra night stay but for some reason the client wanted cash and kept on asking me to send her money via Paypal or sent it to her account. Upon saying no i was left with the bad review. Danie , if you ever want to come back i will always give you an extra night stay as promised. Have a happy new year.
