Exquisite location

Publié le 31 déc. 2017 sur Expedia
Pour : The location is fabulous, and the employees were helpful and hard- working.
Contre : The hotel management can't scrimp on every possible detail and expect the guests not to notice.
Emplacement : The turtle sanctuary was a highlight of our trip.
The location is fabulous- we were in one of the Cangrego units right by the beach & loved it. That being said, our experience with the hotel wasn't 100% positive. We had arranged for a taxi from the hotel to meet us at the border, but were met first by a scammer, who greeted us by name, so we thought he was the taxi driver. He eventually made clear that he wanted us to pay him $20 per person to "help us through the border". He was a friend of the taxi driver apparently, & they were working together. We refused his help but he still grabbed our bags & disappeared with them across the border, making for a long, tension-filled saga that gave us a bad feeling about the hotel before we had even arrived. Once we did arrive, there were weird money-saving things: - only 3 towels were provided for a 4-person reservation, and no toiletries - there was no top sheet for the second bed (a pull-out for our kids), & the hotel said none was available. At our insistence they eventually found a light cotton blanket. - housekeping is an additional $20/day, which wasn't made clear in our reservation - the "coffee provided in room" turned out to be just one packet of coffee for 4 nights, and no coffee maker of any kind (the units at Maritimo el Coco are owned by individuals, so others might have coffee makers). Also, I should mention that one of the other units was robbed while we were there, & the family ended up spending a long afternoon with the police.

Beautiful location unusual hotel

Publié le 9 août 2017 sur Hotels
This is a somewhat unusual hotel; rooms are separate little bungalows set amongst tropical greenery a short walk up from the amazing beach, while the area closest to it seems to be taken up with very expensive scattered beach houses. As it is so green, it is a given that you are going to come across insects and spiders at some point and be prepared for that. Although the rooms are well cleaned and screened they inevitably do get in and just need ushering out again occasionally. The complex is large and sporadically guarded. The area feels safe enough to walk around in at night- a very local feel, but you definitely need a torch. Unlike beaches further north you can swim safely here or watch the amazing sunsets. The hotel restaurant is a great place to hang out with its own hammocks, longers and two pools- food and drink pricey, but you do get the view. NB: hotel reception is 8am to 5pm and there is no real reception/communal area except for the restaurant. We booked one night and stayed for three. Our little cabin was well appointed with tv, wifi, two fans and AC, separate shower and toilet, 2 bunk and one small double beds, an outside seating area and use of a well appointed kitchen. The free breakfast is limited to the first cup of coffee (you pay after that) and a 'tipico' - rice and beans, egg and fried plantain- it's no good asking for anything else unless you cough up for it. Overall, a very good deal, particularly if you do some of your own cooking. Stunning beach

Dear Mariana, Parque Maritimo el coco is located in the wild. Some times it is difficult for us to keep insects this size away from the houses.

A little too much nature for our taste. Windows not sealed enough to keep certain insects out of the room. Staff courteous and helpful.
