Activity itinerary

Tokyo

  • 2h
Leave the city behind and enjoy a comfortable journey to Nikko via Japan's modern motorway network. To ensure a smooth and efficient trip, we use toll roads to avoid unnecessary traffic whenever possible. Along the way, we can stop at a highway service area upon request, where guests can stretch their legs, enjoy local snacks, browse regional souvenirs, or experience a glimpse of Japanese road-trip culture.

Kegon Falls

  • 1h
Surrounded with the scenic mountains of Nikko National Park, Kegon Falls is widely regarded as one of Japan's three most beautiful waterfalls. Cascading nearly 100 metres from Lake Chuzenji into the valley below, the falls offer breathtaking views throughout the year, from vibrant autumn foliage to snow-covered winter landscapes. Guests can admire the waterfall from the observation areas, capture stunning photographs, and experience the refreshing atmosphere created by the powerful flow of water. The surrounding area also features local shops and seasonal treats, making it an ideal stop to appreciate Nikko's natural beauty.

Lake Chuzenji

  • 1h
Located at the foot of Mount Nantai, Lake Chuzenji is Nikko's largest and most picturesque lake. Formed by volcanic activity thousands of years ago, the lake is surrounded by mountains and forests that transform beautifully with each season. Guests can enjoy a relaxing lakeside stroll, capture stunning photographs, or take an optional sightseeing cruise across the lake while admiring panoramic views of Mount Nantai and the surrounding scenery. The area also features charming cafés, souvenir shops, and excellent viewpoints, making it one of Nikko's most popular destinations for nature lovers and photographers. Depending on timing and guest preferences, there will be an opportunity to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring regional specialities near Lake Chuzenji or the Nikko area.

Nikko Tosho-gu

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket not included
The highlight of any visit to Nikko, Toshogu Shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the magnificent mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Renowned for its elaborate gold decorations, vibrant colours, and intricate wood carvings, Toshogu is considered one of Japan's most impressive historical landmarks. Guests can admire the iconic Yomeimon Gate, see the world-famous Three Wise Monkeys and Sleeping Cat carvings, explore centuries-old shrine buildings, and learn about the fascinating history of Japan's most influential samurai leader. Visitors may also experience traditional Japanese culture by making shrine offerings, drawing fortune slips (omikuji), collecting a goshuin stamp, and browsing local souvenir shops offering charms, gifts, and regional specialities. Admission: 1600 JPY/person (not included in tour price, required to pay on site)

Kammangafuchi Gorge

  • 1h
Escape the crowds and discover one of Nikko's best-kept secrets. Kanmangafuchi Abyss is a peaceful riverside gorge formed by ancient lava flows from Mount Nantai and is famous for its row of mysterious stone Jizo statues, known locally as the "Bake Jizo" or Ghost Jizo. Guests can enjoy a relaxing walk along the scenic riverside path, admire the tranquil natural surroundings, learn about local folklore, and capture unique photographs of one of Nikko's most atmospheric locations. This hidden gem offers a quieter and more authentic side of Nikko that many visitors never get to experience.

Nikko Pudding Tei Main Store

  • 30m
End your Nikko journey with a visit to one of the city's most beloved local dessert shops. Nikko Pudding Tei is famous for its handcrafted puddings made with carefully selected local ingredients from Tochigi Prefecture. Guests can enjoy a variety of flavours, including classic custard pudding, seasonal specialities, and pudding-inspired soft serve ice cream. The charming retro-style shop also offers beautifully packaged sweets and souvenirs, making it a perfect place to relax, enjoy a sweet treat, and pick up gifts before returning to Tokyo.

Shinkyo Bridge

  • 30m
Recognised as one of Japan's most beautiful historic bridges, Shinkyo Bridge serves as the symbolic gateway to Nikko's sacred shrine and temple district. Its striking vermilion-red structure spans the Daiya River and creates a stunning contrast against the surrounding forest scenery throughout the year. According to local legend, the bridge marks the spot where the Buddhist monk Shodo Shonin crossed the river with divine assistance more than 1,200 years ago. Guests can admire the bridge from the riverside viewpoints, take memorable photographs, learn about its fascinating history, and enjoy one of Nikko's most iconic landmarks before continuing to the UNESCO World Heritage shrines nearby.
