What you can expect

  • Day 1: Kanigoro Village, Malang Regency

Begin your journey in Kanigoro Village, away from the busy city and surrounded by rice fields, plantations, village roads, and everyday rural life. Rather than visiting a village as a tourist attraction, experience it at a slower pace.

Hop on a bicycle and ride through the countryside with your local guide. Follow quiet village roads, pass rice fields and agricultural areas, and see how local communities live and work. Along the way, encounter farmers working in the fields, children playing, villagers going about their daily routines, and small corners of rural Java that are easy to miss when travelling by car.

After cycling through the village, slow down and enter another important part of Indonesian culture: food. Join a hands-on cooking experience with local hosts and discover how simple ingredients wtih 80% from own land become traditional Javanese dishes and drinks.

Depending on the seasonal ingredients and local availability, learn to prepare traditional specialities such as Sinom, a refreshing herbal drink, and Kembang Gula Kelapa, a traditional coconut-based sweet. Prepare the ingredients together, learn from your local host, cook, taste, and share the meal.

After a relaxed day in the countryside, rest overnight before continuing your adventure towards southern East Java. Your guide will provide information about the following day's early departure and waterfall adventure.

Day 2: Kapas Biru and Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls

Wake up and prepare for a completely different landscape. Today, the journey continues towards Pronojiwo, a mountainous area on the border of Malang and Lumajang, where dramatic cliffs, tropical vegetation, rivers, and waterfalls create some of East Java's most impressive scenery.

Your first destination is Kapas Biru Waterfall. Follow a scenic trail through lush vegetation and descend towards the waterfall. The journey itself is part of the experience, giving you the chance to appreciate the tropical landscape rather than simply arriving at a viewpoint.

Then continue to the highlight of the trip: Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Often described as one of Indonesia's most spectacular waterfalls, Tumpak Sewu drops dramatically into a vast green gorge beneath the towering slopes of Mount Semeru. From the viewpoint, enjoy the panoramic view of countless streams of water cascading down the cliffs.

If conditions and safety allow, continue with a more adventurous walk towards the lower area of the waterfall. The trail can be steep, slippery, and physically demanding, so this section is optional and depends on weather, trail conditions, and your physical ability.
