Set sail from Húsavík, the Whale Capital of Iceland, on an unforgettable adventure with Friends of Moby Dick, a family-operated whale watching company with deep local roots and a lifelong connection to the sea.
Our tours run from March to December, giving you the opportunity to experience Iceland’s incredible marine life and the beautiful landscapes of Skjálfandi Bay.
Surrounded by mountains and the North Atlantic, we search for humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and, occasionally, blue whales. Wildlife is never guaranteed, and every trip is different – searching for these magnificent animals in their natural environment is part of the adventure.
We operate two different boats, and your departure time determines which boat you will sail on, so please check the boat and departure information carefully when booking.
VINUR – heated indoor area & outdoor viewing decks
Vinur is a comfortable ferry-style vessel with a heated indoor seating area, large panoramic windows, tables, two toilets and several outdoor viewing decks. It is the only whale watching boat in Húsavík with an indoor area operating throughout our entire March–December season.
MOBY DICK – traditional oak boat & open-air experience
Moby Dick is our beautifully restored traditional oak boat, offering a classic Icelandic whale watching experience. Its large panoramic open-air deck provides excellent views and photo opportunities.

Safety and comfort are always a priority. We provide warm flotation suits, life jackets for children and friendly personal service throughout the tour.
In spring and summer, long daylight hours create beautiful conditions on Skjálfandi Bay. During autumn and winter, the soft Arctic light and fewer boats on the water offer a completely different and peaceful experience.
