Activity itinerary

Rabati Castle

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket not included
Step into a living crossroads of cultures at the magnificent Rabati Castle in Akhaltsikhe. Originally established in the 9th century as the Lomisa Castle, this grand fortress underwent a massive transformation under Ottoman rule in the 17th and 18th centuries, becoming a unique symbol of multicultural heritage. As you explore the beautifully restored complex, you will see a fascinating harmony of diverse architectures standing side by side: an Orthodox church, a historic mosque with a golden dome, a Catholic church, a madrasa, and a Jewish synagogue. Walk along the medieval defensive stone walls, climb the high watchtowers for stunning panoramic views of Akhaltsikhe, and wander through the elegant Jakeli Palace, which now houses the History Museum filled with ancient artefacts. It is a perfect place to witness how different religions and empires shaped Georgia's rich history.

Vardzia

  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
Prepare to be amazed by Vardzia, a breathtaking 12th-century cave monastery complex carved entirely into the sheer cliffs of the Erusheti Mountain. Constructed during the Golden Age of Georgia under the reign of King Giorgi III and his legendary daughter, Queen Tamar, this spectacular underground city once functioned as a massive fortress hidden from invaders, housing up to 50,000 people. As you climb and walk through this multi-layered rock wonder, you will explore a labyrinth of ancient tunnels, secret escape passages, old living quarters, wine cellars (marani), and refectories. The beating heart of the complex is the Church of the Dormition, where you can admire world-famous, well-preserved medieval frescoes, including one of the rare contemporary portraits of Queen Tamar herself. Vardzia is not just an archaeological site; it is an unforgettable engineering marvel that perfectly shows the resilience and spiritual grandeur of medieval Georgia.

Khertvisi Fortress

  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Witness the dramatic Khertvisi Fortress, one of the oldest and most imposing medieval fortifications in Georgia. Majestically perched on a high rocky hill at the confluence of the Paravani and Mtkvari rivers, this ancient stronghold dates back to the 2nd century BC, with legendary ties to Alexander the Great. As we make our way towards Vardzia, we will stop here to marvel at this giant stone monument. You will have a fantastic opportunity to take stunning panoramic photos of the powerful medieval defensive walls, the towering citadel, and the breathtaking canyon below. It is a quick but incredibly rewarding stop that perfectly captures the wild, historic spirit of the Meskheti region.

Borjomi Central Park

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket not included
Discover the charming resort town of Borjomi, world-renowned for its natural volcanic mineral water. Nestled in a picturesque forested canyon, we will visit the famous Borjomi Central Historical Park, the very place where the first mineral springs were discovered in the 19th century. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to taste the legendary healing Borjomi water directly from the spring at the beautiful glass pavilion. Take a relaxing, scenic walk along the pristine park trails, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy the lovely waterfalls. It is a wonderfully refreshing experience that perfectly blends natural beauty, relaxation, and local history before we continue our journey.
