Stroll through the atmospheric streets at your own pace, browse unique local crafts and souvenirs, or relax over lunch at one of the area's many restaurants. The district is also an excellent place to sample regional specialities from Shiga Prefecture, including Omi Beef, one of Japan's oldest and most celebrated wagyu brands. Explore the historic castle grounds with your guide and learn about the samurai lords who helped shape Japan during the Edo Period. Climb to the top of the original wooden castle keep for panoramic views of Lake Biwa, the surrounding castle town, and the mountains beyond.
