What you can expect

Experience and discover old and new Accra with us. It takes you through some of the principal streets. During this tour will visit Shai Hills Resource Reserve where you will get to see wildlife, go hiking and visit ancient caves

Areas to visit:

Our first visit will be the Independence and Black Star Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African Liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artefacts and an insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life.

o Explore the Makola Local Market.

o Take a short tour of the beautiful and vast campus of University of Ghana, Legon in our private air-conditioned vehicle and visit the Osu Oxford streets with its colourful African shops.

o Proceed to Jamestown Community - One of Accra’s most historic areas where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today.

o Visit “Brazil House” and learn about the seven Afro-Brazilian families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. Familiar Brazilian/Portuguese surnames such as De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, Da Costa, Santos, De Medeiros and Olympio are abundant in this section of Accra.

o Tour Castles (Christianborg Castle)

o We shall visit the popular Aunty Muni’s Kitchen where “Waakye”, a familiar sight to most Ghanaians is deliciously prepared and sold for some food tasting experience. “Waakye” is a simple but nutritious Ghanaian dish of cooked rice and beans served with tomato sauce and hot pepper sauce (optional).

o Visit Asomdwe Park, continue to Accra main and experience a short horse ride.

o Visit W.E.B Du Bois Centre honouring the life of the prominent Pan-Africanist who chose to live and work in Ghana.

o Explore Shai Hills Game Reserve. Time permitting, visit Shai Hills Game reserves. The reserve consists of a very striking and attractive range of rocky hills set in the middle of expansive open and wooded grassland plains. There are several cave systems in the hills, some of which have played and continue to play an important role in the local history of the Krobos. Observe the beautiful range of rocky hills sitting in the midst of large wooded grassland. Several cave systems embedded in the hills have played an important role in local history, culture & tradition of the Shai people. The reserve is home to 31 species of mammals more than 175 species of birds, 13 reptiles’ species.

o Our day’s visit ends at Accra International Art Centre, which is Ghana’s largest outdoor arts and crafts market selling traditional crafts from all over West Africa. You can buy souvenirs to take away with from the market.
