Between Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz, Düsseldorf Opera House, Hofgarten and Corneliusplatz is the new centre of Düsseldorf. The elevated road, affectionately known as the “Tausendfüßler” by Düsseldorfers, once characterised Schadowplatz, but now it is a car-free zone that invites you to stroll around. A green oasis with architectural highlights has been created - such as Kö-Bogen II with its 30,000 hornbeams. The new centre sets the course for a climate-friendly Düsseldorf.
The tour begins at the Opera House, where you will go behind the scenes of the Düsseldorf venue of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Built in 1873 as a municipal theatre, the opera house was redesigned several times before it took on its current form. After visiting the opera house, the tour leads through the Hofgarten along Kö-Bogen I to Ingenhoven-Tal and from there via Schadow-Platz to Königsallee.
Our expert guides will tell you how modern architecture can be combined with cultural sites and green urban design, which artists have shaped Düsseldorf and other anecdotes about the new centre.
