Doris Miller Memorial Park

Born and raised in Waco, Doris Miller became a hero during the attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941. While serving aboard the USS West Virginia, he helped move his wounded captain to safety and took control of an anti-aircraft gun during the attack. He later became the first African American awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism.
