Overview

Enjoy a private 6-hour fjord cruise from Bergen to the spectacular Mostraumen and Osterfjord on board the Premium Explorer 50 Yacht. Experience the magnificent landscape in Bergen's nearby fjords and the Nordhordland region. This return cruise is available all year from the Tourist Information in the city centre.

When sailing out from Bergen's famous Fish Market you will have a great view to some of the oldest and most relevant historical sites in the city, including the medieval fortress Bergenhus, St Mary's church and the colourful Bryggen Hanseatic wharf, which is on UNESCO’s world heritage list.

From there, we sail through beautiful Western Norwegian scenery in the City Fjord, Salhus Fjord and Oster Fjord towards the stunning Mostraumen Channel. The captain safely steers the boat through narrow sounds, deep fjords, a maze of islands and beautiful waterfalls. Break in the village of Mo, an idyllic little town, for lunch.

Activity itinerary

Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf (Pass by)
Colourful Bryggen is one of Bergen's and Norway's main attractions. The very first buildings in Bergen were situated at Bryggen, which has been a vibrant and important area of the city for many centuries. Bryggen is now part of our common heritage and has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and the city of Bergen is a designated World Heritage City. The world heritage site consists of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings, and is one of the best known urban areas from the Middle Ages in all of Norway.
Bergenhus Fortress (Pass by)
Bergenhus Fortress and Royal Castle is one of the oldest and best preserved stone fortifications in Norway, and it contains buildings dating back as far as 1240. In medieval times the area was known as Holmen and contained the royal recidence, as well as a cathedral, several churches, the bishop's residence and a Dominican monastery. Excavations have revealed foundations of buildings believed to date back to before 1100.
Byfjorden (Pass by)
Byfjorden (the Cityfjord), with its water depths ranging from about 5 to 350 metres frames the city of Bergen along its waterfront. It is also a natural landmark, visible from much of the city as it is situated between the seven mountains that encircle Bergen. The 15-kilometre (9.3 mi) long fjord separates the island of Askøy from the mainland Bergen Peninsula, passing right north of the city of Bergen on the mainland.
Salhusfjorden (Pass by)
The 4 kilometre long and up to 500 metre deep Salhusfjord is located between Bergen and Alver Municipality. The fjord is crossed by the Nordhordland Bridge. The fjord takes its name from the village area of Salhus. In the early 12th century there was an inn located there, known at the time as a sáluhus. It acted as a transport hub for Nordhordland, and was a small market town. It was one of the first industrialised places when a hosiery manufacturer was established here in 1859.
Nordhordland Bridge (Pass by)
The Nordhordland Bridge crosses the Salhusfjord at a point where it is around 1300 metre wide and 500 metre deep. The bridge is a pontoon and cable-stayed bridge with one tower. Due to the depth of the sea beneath the bridge, lateral anchorage between the abutments at each end was not possible. To accommodate this unusual condition, there was a great deal of additional analysis in design of the footings at each end of the bridge. The free-floating bridge has the longest laterally-unsupported span in the world.
Osterfjorden (Pass by)
The Osterfjord is one of three fjords surrounding the island of Osterøy. The fjord runs along the municipal border of Lindås and Osterøy municipalities. The fjord begins at the Romarheimsfjorden and flows to the west for 27 kilometres (17 mi) before ending near the village of Knarvik at the confluence of four fjords: Osterfjorden, Radfjorden (to the north), Sørfjorden (to the south), and Salhusfjorden (to the west). The Osterfjorden is generally about 1 to 3 kilometres (0.62 to 1.86 mi) wide and the deepest point in the fjord reaches a depth of 639 metres (2,096 ft) below sea level
Mostraumen (Pass by)
Canalized river with tidal water deep into the Osterfjord. The stream is about 600 metres long and between 50 and 60 metres wide at the most narrow place. Mostraumen was canalized (dredged) about 1913.
