What you can expect
The Luberon’s picturesque landscapes, rolling vineyards and natural surroundings have earned it a nod as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Explore some of this stunning area’s most emblematic hilltop villages on this tour to Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Roussillon and Sault – the Provençal capital of lavender.
Your first stop is in Lourmarin, a pleasant town surrounded by fields of almond trees, vineyards, olive groves and an extensive forest. Stroll around the beautiful old streets of the village, gaze at its magnificent Renaissance castle and pop into its shops, restaurants and art galleries. Your next stop is Bonnieux, a stunning village perched high above the valley below. Wander along narrow cobbled streets and marvel at the 12th-century church with its combination of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Head to the ruins of the medieval towers and ramparts and pass by beautiful 17th-century houses.
From there, continue on to the colourful village of Roussillon, built at the top of an ochre cliff. Stroll the stairs and streets of the old village, explore vaulted passageways lined with lovely homes in hues of marigold and rust and take in a fabulous view over the valley from the ruins of a 10th-century castle. Your tour ends with a visit to the capital of lavender – Sault. Be charmed by the immense violet fields that sprawl around the city and enjoy a stroll to soak up the infinitely peaceful Provençal atmosphere.
