What you can expect

  • Discover the history, culture, and flavours of Rio de Janeiro's Pequena África on this immersive walking tour led by a local guide who specialises in Afro-Brazilian heritage.

Our experience begins at Praça Mauá, home to the futuristic Museum of Tomorrow. From there, we will walk to the impressive Mural das Etnias, one of the largest street art murals in the world, which celebrates cultural diversity and the roots of different peoples.

Next, we visit the Valongo Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest port of arrival for enslaved Africans in the Americas. Then, we continue to the Instituto Pretos Novos, an important memorial site dedicated to the preservation of African ancestry and memory in Brazil.

Our journey continues at the MUHCAB – Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture, where exhibitions and works of art highlight the contributions of Black communities to the formation of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.

Next, we will stroll through the charming streets of Pequena África until we reach Largo São Francisco da Prainha, a vibrant area full of history, culture, and local life.

To conclude the experience, we will stop at a cultural centre and restaurant, where guests can choose to enjoy Afro-Brazilian cuisine and drinks while learning more about local traditions and contemporary Black culture.
