Description

Venture just a few miles of the coast of La Romana to spend a day on the tropical island of Saona. Relax on the beach while sipping a cocktail, roam through the idyllic nature preserve and step into the warm waters to snorkel and swim.

Set sail across the Caribbean waters for the short journey to Saona Island. Stop at a natural ocean pool for a quick swim along the way, and then enjoy a lunch buffet on the island complete with a selection of local drinks and beer.

After lunch, explore the protected nature preserve, known for its deserted island feel, or find a spot near the water to relax on a chaise lounge. Natural sandbars just offshore create the perfect environment to explore the waist-deep ocean waters, and you can grab a snorkel and mask to check out the fields of starfish common in the region.

At the end of your time on the island, board your catamaran for the return trip to the mainland, where a waiting bus takes you back to your hotel.

3.5 out of 5

The island is very pretty and being on the boats was a nice experience...but the overall excursion lasted 15 hours. We had about 4 hours on the sea, the rest was in travel time on a bus or a van. I would not recommend this tour out of Santo Domingo. If you want to visit Saona Island, spend the night in Bayahibe and then do the excursion from there.

Just gorgeous! The island is breathtaking and the catamaran ride was so much fun! We had a great time dancing and taking in the sites.

very poor experience. dirty beach, not very pleasant food, you couldn't get a drink without being surrounded by at least 500/600 bee's and wasps. the boat broke down on the return trip? toilets not lean or working correcting. we weret collected and taken to bayahibe bay boat port, which was 1:30 hours away? but it was advertised that the trip was leaving from santo domingo port? which I asked about before booking and paying for? misinformed, which is poor customer service by expedia.co.uk I wouldn't encourage anyone to go to the island. it is not worth the money I paid at £135 per person... for me and my daughter.
