“In the memories of all the people of the Madonie, there is that day when Grandma made bread. The maidda (wooden container used for the dough) in the centre of the table, the flour and the water, Grandma's delicate yet energetic arms mixing the ingredients; all the children standing on their chairs to watch, confident that she would let them try their hand at that ancient and magical art. Then the oven was lit – strictly wood-fired – and it became an opportunity to make cookies and toast almonds, to create indelible memories of floury hands and forbidden tastes. Madonie Travel Service recreates this atmosphere for visitors, involving some Madonie families, who will teach them how to knead bread.”
