What you can expect

Take an eye-opening look into American history with visits to your choice of 2 of 3 prominent plantation homes (Whitney, Oak Alley, or Laura Plantations) along the Mississippi riverfront. Your journey beings in the New Orleans French Quarter with direct transport via air-conditioned coach to the Great River Road, which winds along the Mississippi River, where the Whitney, Laura, and Oak Alley plantations sit.

Whitney Plantation, open to the public for the first time in over 260 years, is the only plantation museum in Louisiana that focuses on slavery. Through museum exhibits, memorial artwork, restored buildings, and hundreds of first-person slave narratives, Whitney serves as a site of memory and consciousness that pays homage to all slaves who lived and died there, as well as those who lived elsewhere in the United States.

At Laura Plantation, enter the fascinating world of Creoles who lived at this sugar plantation, apart from the American mainstream, for over 200 years. The tour is designed based on information taken from 4 generations of family documents that reveal the real-life accounts of the slaves, owners, women, and children who lived there.

Oak Alley is Louisiana's most photographed plantation, showcasing beautiful Greek revival architecture. The site is famous for having once played host to a Civil War encampment. Stroll a magnificent alley of 300-year-old live oak trees leading to the Mississippi River. After this fascinating journey, enjoy a hassle-free ride back to New Orleans.
