Description

Explore the dark side of Munich's history as you step back in time to analyse the grim realities of the Nazi Germany era, when their power extended across Europe and terror reigned. Immerse yourself in the Third Reich and World War II history as you walk in the footsteps of Hitler's rule.

Your guide leads the way as you stroll along the infamous streets hit in World War II bombings and trace the tracks of one of the horrific tragedies of the 20th century. As you meander through the centre of the city, you pass landmarks including the Hofbrauhaus and Karolinenplatz, the site of Nazi rallies, as well as memorials to victims of the Third Reich and Altes Rathaus – the starting point of the “Night of Broken Glass” – all of which showcase the scars of the city's dark past.

Gain further insight into the Nazi reign as you listen to stories about the shocking reality of Hitler's dictatorship from your knowledgeable guide. You also have the chance to delve into the legacy of the successful district prior to Nazi intervention and learn how the local community is once again emerging as a thriving part of Munich society.

Knowledgeable guide. We went to a lot of places. It felt almost lecture-like, but I understand that he wants to express his own views and this shows his passion for the job.

This tour was well worth it. Our tour guide was passionate, informed, and did very well to paint the context of the rise of Hitler. She drew us into the story and connected the dots very smoothly. Not only was she detailed, but held our interest, bringing with her helpful visual aids. On the quality of the tour I would give a five-star rating, but felt the wrong impression was conveyed regarding the support of Christianity for Hitler. Given the numbers of Christians killed at the hands of Hitler, and those who spoke out for the Jews and were incarcerated, I winced at the unqualified claim that Christians supported Hitler. Lamentably, the Catholic church was complicit (concordat of 1933), and Protestants could be blinded, too, but since it was stated that Hitler drew from a distorted form of social Darwinism (whether or not it was distorted), it would have been more even-handed to say that the support Hitler received from Christians was a departure from Scripture. Note, we follow a Jew!
