About the Cristo Rei Viewpoint
With its exuberant biodiversity and crystal-clear waters, the Garajau Partial Natural Reserve is one of Madeira’s most enchanting spots. Nestled within this protected area lies the Cristo Rei Viewpoint, offering breathtaking views where nature reigns supreme.
Located in the parish of Caniço, municipality of Santa Cruz, the Cristo Rei Viewpoint overlooks the Garajau Natural Reserve, part of Funchal bay, and Caniço de Baixo. It offers a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding landscapes. The viewpoint is named after the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, commissioned by Aires de Ornelas and inaugurated on October 30, 1927. The statue, with open arms facing the ocean, is perched atop a coastal cliff and has become an iconic landmark and symbol of faith and peace in Madeira
Machico

About the Pico do Facho Viewpoint
Overlooking the lush Machico valley, the Pico do Facho Viewpoint offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views on Madeira’s east coast. This elevated spot not only provides scenic beauty, but is also steeped in historical significance.
Situated north of the city of Machico, on a path leading to the summit of Pico do Facho just before the Caniçal tunnel, this viewpoint sits at an altitude of 280 metres. In the past, it served as a strategic watchpoint where bonfires were lit to alert the population of incoming enemy ships. From this vantage point, visitors can admire a stunning panorama that includes the Machico valley, the central peaks of Madeira, the Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula, and even the Desertas Islands to the southeast. The viewpoint also reveals the unique relationship between the island's rugged terrain and its ancient volcanic origins.
