The Yellow Cottage-Manzanita Cottages
Your Own Private Cottage Nestled in a Secluded Garden Compound
This fully restored and renovated cottage is nestled in a private garden compound within a short walk to the village and Main Beach. The cottage has been carefully furnished to meet the needs of discerning traveler's seeking an alternative to hotel lodging.
We have selected very fine art work along with hand crafted furniture to reflect the character and charm of the original art colony of Laguna. The bathroom and kitchen was completely renovated in order to upgrade the facilities and appliances to provide maximum comfort.
Our guests especially enjoy the freedom of walking to virtually all the major attractions in and around Laguna Beach. When they return at the end of the day, they pass through the old wooden gate, walk down the steps into this remarkable garden setting.
We found our cottage to be very comfortable and well equipped. We did have a minor plumbing issue which was immediately taken care of by the property manager. We found this property to be very quiet and beautiful. Pretty gardens throughout the property add to the relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely stay here again.
Super cute cottage that was beyond our expectations. Although it was a little bit of a walk to the beach, the quiet neighborhood and charming scenery was on point. Great place for a quiet, relaxing getaway. Perfect for our 3 day stay. 10 minute walk to beach and shops. Will definitely book again!
We are so pleased with our stay. Aside from the lovely well-kept grounds and the story-book cottages, everything was clean and well-appointed. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay! The bed is comfortable, the cottage is lovely. Conveniently located in proximity to downtown. Definitely a hidden gem that we will be back to visit soon!
The ambience is delightful - lush garden and sitting areas, picnic table, outdoor barbecue. The house is fine. I would NOT recommend the facility for anyone elderly or infirm - the entrance is a very steep set of stair with no 'landing area', accessed by a large awkward gate.
VRBO listed this as two bedrooms and my friend and I chose it for that. The property manager called us the day before arriving and told us that it was one bedroom. VRBO had listed it wrong He made it good and gave us, free, a studio on the property. The AC wasnât working but he had someone out immediately to fix it. Property manager is great.
This property is magical! The garden is such a perfect complement to the cuteness of the cottages and I never wanted to leave! Cooked all my meals in the kitchen while I was there and main beach is such a quick walk away to see those West Coast sunsets. My friend who stayed with me is from Laguna and had no idea that these cute places existed. Owners were very communicative and made the whole process so seamless. Iâll be back!
This is our second. stay at the cottages, and it wonât be our last. Clean, quiet and just right for a couples getaway. Close walk to everything we needed including the beach, dining and groceries.
Our stay was enjoyable & the place is cute & comfy. Bed & pillows were super! There were a few things not working. The ceiling fan in the master did not work & the fan they had in the closet was filled with dust & spider webs, the air conditioner worked great but I live in Vegas & wanted fresh air moving around. Couldnât really leave windows open as the screen are shot & we had bugs come into the bedroom the second night. The garbage disposal did not work & wish I would of tried it before I put food waste in it. The owner did get back with me & apologized for the oversight. Nice place but needs some repairs & deep cleaning.
The cottages are adorable - quaint, historic, iconic and nestled into their own little private community in the heart of Laguna Beach. We stayed in the charming yellow cottage and we literally felt like we were living in a storybook - gnome hats not included. :).
If you are expecting pristine and modern, change your expectations before you go. While the cottage itself was very clean and decorated brightly with cute furnishings and colors, if you take a closer look it is easy to see how in need of TLC this property really is. There were cobwebs in the corners, window tracks were filthy, screens donât fit properly, curtain racks and fixtures are hung carelessly and crooked on the walls, walls have numerous cracks, etc. The grounds outside also need some attention - just general lawn and landscaping grooming would make a world of difference. I would have loved if someone could have moved the creepy life sized deer figurine that was randomly tossed in the little âalleyâ our bedroom window looked out to. Why someone who owns a property as adorable as this would just âlet it goâ is beyond me. With a little time and attention this could be a 5 star place. But because of these issues I give it 3 stars.
Also of note is that our A/C wasnât working when we checked into our cottage - during a heatwave I might add. We were able to reach the property manager/owner promptly and he summoned repair people who were able to get the issue fixed the following day. Neil was as accommodating as he could be and gave us use of the studio apartment (also on the same property) for the first night of our stay. While definitely inconvenient to not be able to âmove inâ and unpack/get organize until the second day of our short 3 day visit, we understand that these things happen.
Of note - there is a coffee maker and blow dryer in the cottage - kitchen has what you need for light meals, etc. There is no oven but there is a microwave and toaster oven. There is a laundry room on the premises as well with one washer/dryer to share.
Overall a quality stay. We did love the location as it was just a short walk to the beach and Laguna shopping as well as nightlife.
Lovely quiet place in Laguna Beach. Easy walk to the beach shopping and great restaurants. Beautiful gardens surrounding the gated area with 4 cottages. Great restaurant suggestion (Nickâs)
Beautiful property and we loved our little cottage. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the charm of the home, the nice outdoor amenities and location. We walked into town morning and night getting a good hill workout in the process. Only thing challenging was getting luggage down the steps into the property thru the big wooden doors. Otherwise the place is delightful in every sense of the word! Highly recommend!
