I have enjoyed this hotel in a prior visit, a week in a suite last spring, this time most of the staff were great, except 1 that ruined the stay. I arrived at 11am for checkin, obviously way too early, returned at 130pm to grab something from my bag, spoke to check in and they assured me that they would text me when my room is ready. I didn't receive a call or message the entire day, returned at 11pm to check in, was berated by the night clerk who was rude, dismissive and just a horrible hospitality employee. She kept repeating to me to desicribe the person who said they would text or call me when my room was in. Asked repeatedly what color they were. Um excuse me, that is not polite, nor would I try and get another employee in trouble. This went on for 5 minutes of being blamed for not checking in at 3pm and trying to come earlier. Yes, I am aware and didn't expect to check in earlier. I expected to be treated with respect and kindness. Also I didn't get a room on a higher floor, as stated earlier in my check in. Left a horrible taste in my mouth for this hotel and was extremely offended. Spoke to the day manager the next day, the comp'd me a few mimosas. No follow up, no further apologies. Shocking and brutal.

No real lobby, but room was spacious for a NYC hotel. Also large shower. All upper floor rooms should have spectacular views as there are not a lot of tall (over 10 stories) around. Bed was comfortable, but pedestal mounted TV limited access.

The Standard East Village is a great hotel in a great location. The neighborhood is not in a busy, central part of NYC but is in a much quieter part of town that is in walking distance of Washington Square and a subway station. The hotel staff is amazing and so attentive. I always love staying at this hotel

Recently, my husband, daughter, and I traveled to NYC and were supposed to stay for two nights. When my daughter was diagnosed with the flu and we had to return home early, the hotel staff was extremely accommodating about refunding us for the night we didn't stay. I have stayed at this location before and always find the staff to be incredibly friendly. Thankful to have had a positive experience during a tough time!

Rooms are outdated

Hotel rooms is very outdated and not to the level of other standard hotels. Staff is friendly and restaurant vibe is great. I would compare this to a 2-3 star hotel.

Room was dirty (water damage in bathroom and what looked like snot on the curtains) and decorative pillow was ripped. The reso was for 2 and the amenities (robe, earplugs) were for one. Elevators slow and often stopped on floors that weren’t selected.

Accusatory and Hostile - Flies in Room

When I arrived, I asked to upgrade. They said I could for $50/night. I was there with my sister so we told them that would be great to have more room and asked if they had any rooms available with two queens instead of our booked king. They said yes. We arrived in the room, and the space was smaller than it would've been in the king room. I wish they had told me that but decided it was fine. We got all unpacked but kept finding baby flies everywhere...we killed 6 and when I went to take a shower, there was a 7th that came out of my folded towel. At that point, we needed a new room. I called down and was met with extreme hostility, where they told me since I had entered the room that I would still have to pay for the $50 upgrade fee for the night. I questioned that and she finally gave in, but it was clear she thought I was trying to just get a bigger room. We were met with hostility to move our bags, they wouldn't leave until we found our e-keys from the previous room (don't those just get disabled?) and we were put into a room that had a door that led to another guest room. Normally that would have a lock on our side and their side, but this was just a locked door...nothing to keep the other person from coming if if they could open it from their side. We inquired about this and they made it very clear that they were annoyed we would ask. We were told only a security guard could open it. While we were still uncomfortable, we had been shamed so much that we just stayed.
