Seven-bedroom beautiful home in the heart of London (Westminster)
So central that you share a postcode with Royalty! You can walk to Buckingham Palace in under ten minutes - and to many of the other main tourist attractions.
This spectacular family home is a classic Victorian London townhouse built in 1851 and quietly situated in a magnificent terraced crescent. A history of the house through to the present day has been compiled and published, - and we gift each group of guests a 'memento' copy. The house boasts 7 bedrooms (3 with desks), a conservatory/office (two or three people can work there), a sitting room, a kitchen-dining room (seats 12), 3 x bath/shower rooms + 2 x separate WCs. Free unlimited high-speed wi-fi throughout; 5 x SMART TVs with Netflix included and most other apps available, Bluetooth speakers and Amazon Echo. With the rooms laid out on four main floors (and some mezzanines), the house works well for extended families or a team of co-workers.
In the various bedrooms there are 4 x large Queen beds (150cm, 5'6' wide), 1 x smaller double bed (135 cm, 4"6" wide), 3 x single beds - and 2 x fold-out bed-chairs in 2 large bedrooms (for nervous children). There are black-out blinds or shutters in all bedrooms. Maximum permitted occupancy is 12 people plus infants (2 x cots provided). The main rooms have ornate ceilings, cast iron and marble fireplaces fitted with coal-effect open fires, chandeliers & working Victorian window-shutters. The house is fitted with every modern convenience: washing machine, separate tumble dryer, top-of-the-range espresso coffee machine, microwave, kitchen range (3 x ovens), American-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, 5 x hairdryers, 2 x irons.. All linen and towels are provided; and for children there are books, toys, 2 x highchairs (as well as the 2 cots) and other baby equipment. Cosy in winter (central heating + underfloor heating), cool in summer (air-conditioning on the top floor and high-quality fans in all other rooms, plus an air purifier), the house is comfortable in all weathers. Thereâs a suntrap terrace leading from the kitchen, plus a delightful patio garden wreathed in jasmine and wisteria and calming the soul with gently running water (which you can turn off!) An excellent sports centre with public-access gym and swimming pools is a two-minute WALK from the house.
The house is warm in winter and cool in summer. In winter, there is central heating in all rooms; in summer, we provide air-conditioning on the top floor, which can get uncomfortably hot. The lower floors never do, as the house is brick-built in a terrace, but we provide fans in ALL other rooms for the occasional days when the temperature in London is very hot.
We keep the house in immaculate condition, constantly re-painting to remove scuff marks and renewing furniture and accessories regularly. Over the last five years, every room has been refurbished. Guests frequently comment on our level of cleanliness and attention to detail. A welcome pack of groceries greets you on arrival.
We pride ourselves on the fact that the house is imaginatively decorated and laid out in such a way that there are great opportunities for privacy, as well as for all members of the household to meet sociably.
The location of this wonderful house is unbeatable. Although it is situated in the very heart of London, it is quietly positioned. The area is safe and well served in every possible way. The neighbouring streets are full of great local shops including supermarkets (open all hours), specialist delicatessens, hardware shops, a post-office, beauty salons and hairdressers, haute couture and antique shops, as well as a wide range of restaurants, cafes and marvellous food carry-outs. At one end of the street is a local food market; at the other, under two minutes' walk from the house, is Pimlico Underground ('Tube') Station and terrific local bus routes. From the house it is just a short stroll to Victoria Station, Tate Britain, the Thames, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, St Jamesâ Park, Battersea Park, Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Several theatres are close by, too, as is a beautiful cinema.
It is only a short tube/bus/taxi ride (or you can walk) to Hyde Park, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, the West End, Chinatown, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, the National Gallery, the National Theatre, the National Film Theatre, the Festival Hall, Shakespeareâs Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern the London Eye, the London Aquarium, and other main London attractions. There are easy transport links to all London airports and mainline stations, and London and regional coach tours. For those who like to run or jog, there are accessible routes from the house along the River Thames and through the nearby parks.
This spectacular house is brilliantly located for special annual London events, including - within WALKING distance - all Royal Family celebrations, the Chelsea Flower Show , the London Marathon (finishing line), the New Year's Day Parade, the Lord Mayor's Procession & Show, the Trooping of the Colour, the Thames Festival, the State Opening of Parliament, Guy Fawkes Night (5 November - walk across the river to Battersea Park), the New Year Fireworks (watch them from outside Tate Britain, five minutes' walk from the house). Westminster Abbey, St John's Smith Square and Westminster Cathedral are all within ten minutes' walk and magical for Christmas Carols.
Within a short tube/bus ride you'll reach the London International Boat Show, the Olympia Fine Art & Antique Fair, the Holiday and Travel Show, Party in the Park, the London Proms at the Albert Hall, the Covent Garden Festival of Street Theatre, the Notting Hill Carnival, the Russian Winter Festival, the Chinese New Year celebrations - and outdoor skating during the winter months. Equally close is the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the. National Film Theatre (the heart of the great London film festival), the Chelsea Antiques Fair, the Christmas lights and many other major cultural and sporting events. Wimbledon Lawn Tennis is an easy tube-ride away, as is Wembley Stadium.
We purchased our central London home in 1985 and lived there until 2008. The moment we opened the door we loved it. It felt then, and feels now, as if only happy things have happened here - which can't possibly be true, since it's more than 170 years since it was built! We wanted to live right in the heart of London, and you can't get much closer to the heart than this. We also wanted a characterful house, with high ceilings, original features and a sense of generations upon generations of people having lived there before us. And that is exactly what we got! We raised our family here, working from home, so the house has always been busy and full of children. When we left it, and downshifted to another part of London, we rejoiced that we didn't have to sell it, and that other people could enjoy it too.
The remarkable thing about 'Pimlico' (the area of the London Borough of Westminster in which our house is situated), is that it is quite like a village, and yet it is right in the heart of perhaps the greatest city in the world. Neighbours know and look out for each other; our street contains many family houses and has an active residents' association, the shop keepers know us and are friendly, and yet the district is at the same time both cosmopolitan and fast-paced. In Pimlico you can live peacefully, yet never feel that life is passing you by.
We had a wonderful getaway for our whole family (10 people ages 3-70). The house was exactly as listed, and even decorated for Christmas. The children were thrilled to play with the doll house, provided toys, and a galaxy projector in their bedroom (a hit for our space-obsessed little). Every room has detailed notes for every possible question, so I never needed to message the host with anything extra. Loved being on a quieter street but still with restaurants nearby and a quick walk to the heart of everything. The perfect holiday family trip!
Our family (ages 13-80) from the states enjoyed staying in this beautiful home for the holidays. The home had plenty of space and comfortable beds for our family of 12. It is located in a very walkable area of the city, and the Tube station is just down the road. This gracious host provided such helpful information before the trip, and made sure we were comfortable from day one with a basket of starter groceries. The downstairs dining room provided a nice gathering spot for morning coffee, and the sitting room was plenty large for evening chats.I highly recommend this property without hesitation. It was a perfect home away from home for us.
Fantastic in every way . Exactly as described and could not have been easier - an exceptional property manager and property for our stay . We could not have been more pleased .
We had an outstanding experience at this property! There were nine people in our party, spanning three generations and ages 6 to 79. We stayed for one week, so we had plenty of time to experience the place and its amenities. Some details:- Accommodations: Exactly as advertised. The bedrooms are all very comfortable, the bathrooms are in excellent condition, the kitchen is modern and well appointed with a very nice welcome basket and fantastic espresso machine (and French presses). The upper two bedrooms have A/C, and the rest of the rooms were fine without it (in mid-August with mild temps outside). - Location: Convenient location in Central London, on a quiet, pleasant street. Two blocks away from Pimlico train station and about a 12m walk from Victoria. Plenty of restaurants and grocery shops in close walking distance from the place. - Host: Extremely responsive before and during the visit. Carole and Adrienne provided extensive documentation on the property and surroundings in advance of our visit, and there are guides & reminders throughout the house. They've anticipated and addressed nearly every possible issue. This is just a small snapshot of our experience. Highly recommend the property and would have no hesitation to stay there again!
We had a lovely stay at the Violet House. The location was wonderful, and there was plenty of space for our whole group. It was a traditional row home and there can be quirks to that of course, but the hosts had thought of everything to make the stay wonderful. We will definitely come back next time we are in London.
Great time. Pimlico area where houselocated a great neighborhood. Stairs were a bit much and AC only on top floor. But house sleeping arrangements quite comfortable and kitchen well appointed. Only wish they had an easier to operate drip coffee maker. Walked each morn to a close by coffee shop.
This Pimlico property was even better than advertised and was absolutely perfect for our family group of nine (grandparents, grown children and tween & teen grandchildren). The space to gather as a group worked out great, and everyone had their own space for sleeping. The house was spotless, the property manager was exceptional, and the process from check-in thru departure was seamless. We really appreciated the fact that we were allowed to drop off luggage prior to check-in, so we could begin exploring immediately upon arrival. But as wonderful as the actual accommodations were, our favorite part of the property was the location. We absolutely loved the quiet street and the close proximity to grocers, restaurants and shops. It was also located close enough to most of the touristy areas to walk, which is what we usually preferred to do. However, the fact that Pimlico tube was just steps away was a bonus when we did need to use it. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this place, and we would definitely stay here again!
Excellent property! Perfect for our group of 9 with 3 teenage girls! High end kitchen and laundry appliances. Dining table that seated all of us. Different styles of bedrooms for the girls to choose. Superb documentation of the property with clear directions for appliances and bathrooms. Bakeries, coffee shops, and grocery stores nearby. Short walk to Pimlico tube station.Everyone in our group gave the property a 5 star rating!
What a wonderful location! Many tourist sites were within walking distance and the tube was nearby. Also lots of good pubs, stores, etc. There was enough room for our famiy of 11 to spread out but also to be together in the dining area. Everything was well stocked except towels but there was a washer/drier. Nice welcome basket on arrival. Very easy check in & key access. Really cute place, everyone loved it.
Amazing location and house. The owner was _amazingly_ responsive and every aspect of the house was labelled and explained. This is exactly what I expect for the price -- extremely responsive and helpful owner/manager, incredible property, and everything was well-communicated and explained so we knew what to expect in advance and when we arrived. Recommend without hesitation!!
This was a wonderful home to base our stay in London. Plenty of room for the 8 of us (2 families both with kids). And all the amenities we might need. Grocery and eating locations nearby were convenient. Communication with the owner was clear and so helpful. And more than anything being near the Pimlico Underground station was a so convenient for our daily outings around London. Would definitely stay here again!
The pre-trip, during-trip, after-trip communications were great. The managers were very organized and responsive. The location near Pimlico station was great. We have no complaints. My 9 year old granddaughter really enjoyed her time in the conservatory. She took the room over when she arrived. All of the TVs, appliances, beds, and internet were fine.
Excellent location ..very cleanâŠhouse was beautiful and nicely furnished albeit some ares were slightly âtiredâ âŠlooks like it gets a lot of use.
We stayed in the house for a week in London with our family - it was our kids first time in London. The house is in a great location with easy transportation anywhere in London using the Underground. We used both the Victoria and Pimlico stations. We felt very welcome to the local community with great local shopping, restaurant's, and even the local pub across the street Cask. We made some new friends - the owner of Cask across the street gave us some pint glasses that we could take back to Nashville. Adrienne was great to work with on our VRBO - great communication, house and neighborhood was very clean, safe, and the home has a lot of great details. We loved the "green room" upstairs with couches and reading area. We read the book with the amazing history of the house. We will be back to London and will stay here again - thank you!
We had a great visit to see our son who is studying abroad for the semester. This house was a great home away from home! Perfect location; close to the tube station, easy for Ubers, multiple places to eat within a block or 2, Tachbrook Bakery for breakfast, grab some snacks next door & off to see the sights for the day. The house was clean & comfortable, nice beds, everything we needed in the kitchen & loved having the spacious sitting room so we could all gather together after a long day. The Hosts provided so many little things that really added to our stay; extra chargers, hairdryers, guide books & a welcome basket with treats. The books with ideas on what to do/where to eat were helpful & well thought out. We really appreciated the love attention that has obviously been put into this home & are thankful we got to share it.
We have just spent seven delightful days at 112 Tachbrook Street. There were 10 of us. The house was perfect us. There are two spaces where we gathered and quiet spaces for each of us also. I made arrangements for the house over a year ahead of time and it was worth the wait. Adrienne, our host, was kind, gracious and knowledgeable. The neighborhood was a well located and welcoming respite from the hustle and bustle of a busy holiday season in London. I recommend the property to everyone. Joy McHaffie
Our family enjoyed the house all the rooms all the space. It had a great kitchen. And it was comfortable. There are a lot of steps so if you travel light itâs great!
