This was a favorite of my wife and I, but seems to have gone downhill. We stayed 5 nights and had reservations for another 3 nights a month later (which we cancelled). When we arrived the staff was welcoming - until we got to our room which reeked of smoke, our something! We spoke to the front desk and went to dinner (Nice Matin is a lovely restaurant of the lobby)! After dinner the person at the desk said they had no other rooms and that they had dealt with the odor - which he characterized as “sometimes happens, it’s an old hotel”! They had turned the AC up, and the odor was better but not gone. It never fully dissipated the whole 5 nights. Didn’t appreciate being gaslighted by the staff. Our second stay was at a different hotel down the street - nicer and cheaper! So disappointing!

The hotel reminds me of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining with the old carpet, elevator and accents. That being said, the room and bathroom are charming on their own. During our stay, our AC unfortunately broke down at 11:30 PM. The staff happily moved us from 3rd to 10th flr and it was the best room!!! It had 2 windows and more real estate. Staff were excellent. The neighborhood is so quiet and a perfect mix of tourists and locals. Food from Nice Matin was delicious (get the package if you can). i would rebook this hotel again next time I’m in NYC.

The rooms were clean and spacious. There is always a doorman to help with the heavy doors. The location is perfect--very close the the 79th street subway station, if you want any other train besides the 1 train, you have an easy walk a few blocks to the 72nd street station. Lots of great restaurants and shopping nearby.

This hotel is in a nice west side area . Museum of natural history and central park make a nice and interesting nature walk. A little bit further walk and you will find the Metropolitan museum on 5th ave. Uber, taxis and subway are super convenient.

Hotel is just old. Our "sitting room" smelled like urine - probably from them letting pets stay there. Air Conditioning is loud and wakes you up. It's not central air. - it's just a unit that turns on/off when it gets hot. Loud noises from the street as well. I would not recommend this hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at The Lucerne. The room was bigger than any other hotel room I've had in NYC. We also had a fridge and microwave. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and responded immediately with any questions or requests. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was extremely clean, staff were friendly and helpful and the location couldnt be beat. Lots of great restaurants around, access to Central Park, shops, bank machine, pharmacy. Really great neighbourhood as base for holiday as it was laid back with less bustle but easy to get to sites...

The best thing about this hotel was the location. Some of the doormen were rude and not much help. Front desk was lovely. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Our room had no view although was comfortable. Expected a bit more from a room at this price point.
