The view leaving the resort. They have a spot for you to pull to the side for picture view along with some ancient legends to read about.
It's a hard to find Helton creek. It's a well kept secret. When you are 129 going up the mountain after Vogule State Park the road widens for passing, after the first big turn there is a road on the left with a small sign, Helton Creek falls. That's it. Just take that road, then take the dirt road it turns into, then you are there after a mile or two.
Helton creek falls. Arguably the most beautiful falls in north Georgia. After parking its a .5 mile hike to the platform to view the upper falls. In the fall and winter the sun shines directly at you from late morning through the afternoon.
Last night I was able to set up my star tracker and mount up my camera to capture the Orion Nebula. This is the first time I have even attempted something like this. Before I have only used my tracker for wide landscape shots.

The three stars on the left are Orion's belt. The Nebula is in the middle of Orion's scabbard. The nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2,000 times that of the Sun.

You can actually see Orion's nebula with the naked eye, that is why the scabbard looks fuzzy. You can also see this with just a pair of binoculars, this image was taken at 200 mm, so not too much zoom.
