My good friend came to visit me from out of town for his birthday and he had never been to Unicoi or the Helen, Georgia area, so I looked up local places, and stumbled upon this amazing hidden gem, The Unicoi State Park & Lodge!
The staff was amazing, food was great, rooms were perfect, and I am so glad I decided to book his stay with this Lodge!
It simply exceeded my expectations, and I have nothing but great things to say about the entire place!
A Special thanks to Nae, Brooke, and Chris from the Tavern!
Our experience overall was pleasant. Would return for the price.
Pros:
Very comfy bed. Room felt pretty clean. Great location. Cool grounds.
Cons:
On our way to the hotel, I called multiple times over the span of an hour to try and get in touch with someone to ask if there was mini fridges in the rooms, which we were really banking on. We had items with us that needed to be refrigerated and/or kept in a freezer box. No one ever answered nor ever returned my call after leaving a voicemail that I was prompted to leave. (spoiler, they are in the rooms, but there's no freezer box in the fridge). I've never experienced a hotel being completely unreachable via phone.
Pillows were really thin/ skimpy with stains on the covers. Ick. (Hence why I always travel with my own pillow in case).
We knew breakfast wasn't included, but some of the staple food available was not at all worthy of a $15+ price tag per person. The eggs were dry, overcooked, and what you might expect at free continental breakfast. Overall, the quality/options just did not at all match the price tag. Had I known, I would have gone elsewhere to pay for a meal of better quality. They were also running low on a few things. I witnessed some guests not even able to get some food because it ran out. If we're paying for our meals, everything should be available till the last minute breakfast is listed to end.
The wifi was spotty and tv signal dropped out multiple times when it started raining (it was light rain)
Everything was perfect until the second day where we encountered a roach on our way to our room later another one was crawling on the wall in our room and next morning one was at the door as we walked out.
The room was cleaned and comfortable but since they are in a rural area they should do fumigation more often. They had a full house so we couldn't change rooms so front desk couldn't help on the other hand they have a free shuttle and first day manager was very helpful and nice
Amazing! Super clean. The location is excellent and the staff go above and beyond to make sure we had everything. Bed was very comfortable. We loved it! Will be coming back again. Highly recommend!
Property is not set up for older Americans with disabilities! Parking was horrible, ice machines on certain floors which make it difficult for any one on oxygen and concentrator! Zachariah was not informative when I checked in; staff doesnât answer phones ! Restaurant of Tavern was unacceptable for the cost and Annaâs was advertised but not open! Disservice of tax dollars being spent for a State Park!
Beautiful location with soft beds and trails you can walk to. My only complaint is that the breakfast and dinner were way out of my price range. But I would definitely come back to stay here again.
