Stylish and contemporary 3 bedroom villa, with large pool, sea views + fast wifi

"Thea Zalia", Crete, is part of a small collection of stylish holiday homes of the Zalia Retreats' portfolio..

Architect designed to maximise the panoramic sea and mountain views, Thea Zalia offers you the perfect place to relax and unwind. Only a short walk from Sellia, a small, quiet, rural village with many older homes and plenty of traditional Cretan charm. There are quality restaurants, using locally sourced food and offering traditional Cretan hospitality, with stunning views of Plakias bay. You’ll also find a small mini market selling fresh locally grown vegetables and good wines together with basic essentials. Larger supermarkets are to be found in the resort of Plakias, a seven minute drive away.

Clear blue seas and quiet beaches are in abundance in this area, all within a five to twenty minute drive. The resort town of Plakias offers good restaurants, bars and shops but remains low key.

Thea Zalia's main en-suite bedroom (with bath) offers panoramic sea and mountain views from the super king sized bed. On clear days you can also see the island of Gavdos.

A double bedroom, with oak wood flooring has a kingsize bed with pool and sea views and opens onto a terrace .The third bedroom is a twin, which can also be made up into a kingsize bed. It looks onto the mountains with the village sheltering beneath. These bedrooms share a large wet-room.

There is air conditioning throughout with a wood burning fire for the cooler months.

The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped, including a capacious fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. From here large sliding windows lead to a shaded outside dining space, to the swimming pool and beyond to sea views.

The spacious living area is thoughtfully furnished with comfortable seating for all guests. Satellite TV with English-speaking channels, a dvd player and free WIFI are installed here. The open plan dining space has an large table, appropriate for informal eating or fine dining and perfect for celebratory meals.

The house is designed to shelter the pool and patio from the warm but familiar sirocco winds known in all the Greek islands. The fabulous pool is ideal for both the confident swimmer and the beginner, it has a shallow paddling area with safe graduated steps into the main pool.

The space around the house has been landscaped and just below the house an ancient winnowing circle has been reinstated to provide an extra social space for star gazing. Planting is taking place echoing the natural environment of wild flowers and hardy bushes.

The area does have strong winds from time to time and these are more common in the summer months.

Perfectly Appointed
A lovely, well-appointed property with all the necessities in a quiet location. Very nice guest welcome pack with good recommendations for restaurants and local sites. Views from the house are stunning and communication with the owner was excellent and fluid.

Even Better Than It Looks On-Line!
Thea Zalia is an incredible property that is even better in person than the pictures in the listing suggest. We lacked for nothing and felt spoiled by the amazing amenities. The views from the front of the property over the sea are second to none. The village of Sellia was warm and welcoming. We especially enjoyed the restaurant Elia - so much so that we went back for a second night. The recommendations in the welcome packet (sites to visit, restaurant recommendations, etc.) were especially helpful as we planned our days. It felt like every day brought another stunning surprise with beautiful scenery, great hikes, and dips in the (bit frigid) sea around every corner. Weather was just perfect and it felt great to our cold Scottish bones (we are from San Diego on an expat assignment in Edinburgh). Joseph was very responsive and always available through the booking process. Cannot recommend this property any higher!

Pristine, luxurious property
I chose this property not for its location but for its curb appeal in the photos. Did we ever land on our feet! Not only was the house stunning but so was the location. The village in which the house is located (Sellia) is quaint, friendly, and has everything you need. The town below and the beaches are also wonderful. We loved it so much and the house that we found ourselves looking for plots to buy. The house is extremely well designed and so are the interiors. The beds and linens are of high quality along with everything else. The views from the huge windows as well as from the pool area are like a dream. I cannot fault the property at all. Thank you to the owners for their organised service and for creating such a stunning holiday home. Sincerely The Hudson Family, UK

A much-needed Covid escape
After four and a half months of lockdown we needed a break. We were all very impressed with the property which beat expectations in terms of size, location and views. We all thought it was much bigger than it appears in the marketing the views from both inside and outside impressed. There are some lovely local beaches that are all very family and swimming friendly with tavernas on the beach. Sellia itself is a few minutes walk away and has three quite different but all pretty good restaurants and Plakias has a bigger selection if you can drive 10 mins down the hill. As all the reviews say it is pretty windy at times, but you actually need the wind in August in the heat, so it was welcome. Very enjoyable fortnight overall

Heaven on earth
The villa is faultless, stunning, comfortable with views to die for. We did experience the winds but quite enjoyed them in a funny kind of way. Felt so cosy inside as the wind whistles around the villa and gave a lovely relief to the intense heat when outside. My only negative is the hair pin, steep bends to access the villa and all beaches. However, I am a particularly nervous passenger and the rest of the family didn’t seem too bothered.

Gorgeous Villa
We stayed for 10 days and loved every minute! The home is gorgeous! The modern clean design and the furnishings made this place comfortable and functional. Loved the stunning views from every window. Kitchen is fully equipped. Sheets, towels and toiletries were of a high quality. A satillite TV with English channels and decent wifi. Pool area was so relaxing. While there we were busy hiking (Samaria, Loutro, Preveli) sighseeing and relaxing on various beaches. Located in the small village of Sellia was another plus...a few great places to have dinner (Elia, Mersastri, Panostrati) and a wonderful small grocery stocking local products and organic veggies/fruit. Enjoyed walking by the local Kafenion and church to observe daily life. Watching a herd of sheep walking by our villa going to pasture morning and evening was amazing. The owners emailed us a comprehensive welcome packet prior to our arrival (super helpful) and were in good communication with us when needed. Highly recommended. Dennis and Patricia USA

Modern design villa, breathing views and internal wow factor
It was nice arriving to find a French family just getting out of their car and thinking the villa was theirs, to then correct them and let them know it's ours, sling your hook! Three bedrooms, one twin, double and master bedroom, which has the most amazing view to wake up to. Now I loved this villa but, and this is a big but. We had a week of gale force winds, apparently it comes and goes in summer on the south of island. And being on top of a hill, you really feel it, car doors blow open, front door needs locked to stop wind. You also need to drive up a dirt Road then reverse up driveway( which is on side of hill), but it made us go to Plakias more and surrounding beaches, which was fab. I am nit picking here as it's an amazing villa, but we never got to use the bbq or really the pool or sit out at night as it was super windy. This is something to think about if you have small kids, I'm not joking! If there was a breeze or light wind when there, it's complete perfection, but that's the gamble with south of the island. The kitchen is stocked well and all rooms have A/C. The master bedroom has a standalone bath in the bedroom area as well a separate large shower/toilet. We had three kids aged 15, 13 and 10 and they loved it, but the wind took away evening pool time for them. The villa is in the village of Saliva, which has a couple of restaurants and grocery shop but they felt pricey as if it was for German villa owners, unlike in Plakias. The road through the village to the villa is very narrow and one lane at times, don't rent a wide car in Crete. The owner is very available through email and has arranged for the pool to be cleaned every day if needed. No problems at all. Overall, I was so much more impressed on arrival, the pics don't do it justice. Just that bloody wind!!!!

What a fantastic place!
Beautiful spacious villa with all mod cons. Views to die for! The master bedroom is absolutely amazing. We did not want to leave. The villa is immaculately presented. |t has been very thoughtfully built and furnished. Only an 8 min walk to village where there are 2 fantastic tavernas. We walked into Plakias which took 45 minutes (nice views all the way down) and got a taxi back - all very easy. Plakias has all you would wish for; great supermarket, bars and restaurants. Beaches well served; especially eastern end. We did not get time to do everything we wanted to do so just had to book again for next year. Yes it can be a little windy but we only had wind for a day or so; a little excuse to leave and have great beach days!

Wonderful out of season stay!
The villa is fantastic with one of the best views I have ever experienced. Unfortunately for us the weather was not great up in the mountains during our week and the 'Meltemi' wind was incredibly strong which meant that using the gorgeous pool was not an option and caused a few problems with the electrics. But despite the weather we had a wonderful week and would thoroughly recommend the villa to anyone.

Jaw Dropping!!!! An Amazing villa in an amazing setting finished to an outstanding standard.
From the welcome pack to arriving and seeing the villa for the first time was a very accurate and enjoyable experiance, in the blurb the owner says that he hopes that the villa will exceed your expectations, it certainly does. Our faces and squeals of joy when we first walked in must have been a picture. Back up from the owner was only an email away and a local man popped by most days to clean the pool. Crete is an amazing island, great food, loverly people and a sea that you can just play in for hours and not get cold. From what we saw of Crete we definatly prefered the South side. We would love to visit again.
