Dorothy Forster and her brother Tom originally lived in Bamburgh Castle, which had been owned by the Forster family from the 16th century. During the Jacobite Rebellion, Tom enlisted to fight for the Stuart cause and was captured and put in Newgate Goal, London. In a daring plan Dorothy disguised as a servant, travelled to London and using a duplicate key, helped her brother escape and he fled to France. Dorothy arranged for a coffin to be filled with sawdust and placed in the family vault at Bamburgh to outwit the authorities. After Tomâs death in 1738, his body was returned to England and laid to rest in St Aidanâs Church in Bamburgh, and Dorothy was buried alongside him.

My daughter & I loved the flat. It was warm & cosy with everything we needed. It was very welcoming with various supplies provided. We will definitely book again in the summer if we can. Thank you so much ðƞËĆ
Fantastic communication. Very flexible with a request we made. Exceptionally clean and ideally located apartment. The whole stay was very comfortable. Lovely welcome pack on arrival also. Much appreciated. Highly recommended. Would definitley visit again in an instant.
Absolutely loved the property and feel very lucky we got to stay here. Great welcome pack on arrival (much appreciated). Everything you need for a trip away. We had some great meals out and went on some nice local walks through hulne priory aswell as alnwick gardens. Highly recommended this property to say in.
We really enjoyed our stay in Alnwick and the location of the cottage was first class.
We really enjoyed our stay in Alnwick and the location of the cottage was first class. However the outside of the building, windows in particular left us a little confused as we mistook it for a derelict building and the back courtyard was not a place you would want to sit in. We had everything we needed in the cottage itself and the welcome basket was indeed welcome. Bedding and towels were good too. The parking permit was essential as the town was very busy.It was a very good base to visit the many locations around that we did but maybe the weekend was not the best time to do so as everywhere was packed with people and dogs.Alnwick itself is a lovely town with plenty of places to eat shop and drink but it has a big problem with dog poo on the streets. Beware where you step.
