Beautiful quiet home on Bald Head Island - short walk to beach

Welcome to Sheltering Oaks, a 3Br/3Ba home in the maritime forest. Our home is just a short walk to the beach (under a quarter mile) and the Maritime Market (about a third of a mile). House is on a quiet cul-de-sac, down a private driveway, and is surrounded by beautiful live oaks and sabal palms. The house features two four person golf carts, a front porch with rocking chairs, a back screened in porch with dining table and rockers, an outdoor shower. The home has an open floor plan with two large bedrooms downstairs (each with attached full bath) and one bedroom upstairs with full bath. Home is equipped with everything you need for your vacation including tvs, dvds, Wii-U, games and puzzles, a record player and plenty of records, boogie boards, beach chairs, bikes, and a Weber grill. Listen to the roar of the ocean from the screened in porch. Upstairs bedroom has a door at top of stairs for added privacy.

A guest membership to the Bald Head Island Club is available, and can be rented for guest use for an additional fee by contacting the Club directly and letting them know that you are a guest at Sheltering Oaks. The Bald Head Island Club offers elegant dining, a beautiful private golf course, newly updated pools, croquet, tennis, and a gym. (Disclaimer: Guest Memberships are limited and not guaranteed.)

With no cars and a quiet island location, Bald Head Island is a unique, relaxing destination. Accessible only by passenger ferry, this island is a true gem. Visit pristine beaches, climb to the top of the historic Old Baldy lighthouse, or ride your bike around the island's tree canopied roads. Stop for a drink overlooking the marina and dine on the waterfront. Once you visit, you'll want to return!

**There is an external security camera on the premises, however it is turned off while guest are staying.

Also please note that there are wild animals on the island. It is not uncommon to see deer, turtles, frogs, toads, coyotes, snakes, and even alligators. Please be respectful of the wildlife and be sure to keep your trash in the designated locked trash receptacles!

This house was the perfect location between the market and beach yet on a private lot with a cul-de-sac and long driveway perfect for keeping kids and pets corralled. The owners were quick to respond to questions and couldn’t have been nicer.

This was a fantastic stay! House was very clean, golf carts worked great, host was super communicative and helpful! Loved the location, close to the beach and market but also secluded enough that it was very peaceful in the evening. Hoping we can stay here again next time we visit the island!

Perfect Oasis on a magical island

The house was just lovely and perfect for our Spring Break trip. It has everything you need and is walking or golf cart close to grocery store, coffee, shops, and restaurants.The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well appointed for cooking ‘at home’.A couple of things that were absolutely not deal breakers for us but may be to some others. One of the golf carts does have a fair amount of mildew/mold damage on the seats. It was great to have and we just laid blankets/towels down on it but if there’s any sensitivity to it it’s a good heads up.Checkout can be interesting if you’re not taking the early ferry out because a 10am checkout means that the tram will pick you up between 8:45-9:15, so you’re not really getting to experience that last day/morning on the island. With that said, they were accommodating and let us use the golf cart until 11, but we had some back and forth luggage drop off trips to harbor (tram won’t allow you to be picked up early as reservations align to ferry schedule).Overall we would definitely consider the house and hosts again!

Perfect for small families.

Location was about midway between the ends of the island, off Muscadyne Way, closest to South Beach and walkable to the nearest beach access. Short ride to market, restaurants and shops. Maritime forest area, so shady but minimal breeze. Other cottages very close but screened by vegetation. A few minor issues but host responded quickly. Perfect for family with small kids. Very comfortable. Pet friendly with prior approval. Would stay again.

Nestled nicely on quiet forest street and conveniently right down the road from the market and Jailhouse restaurant. The house could use some updates but it was overall comfortable for a long weekend stay . The owner was easy to communicate with and accommodating .

Good overall but needs a bit more attention to detail

Very clean place with great location and wonderful host. Check in and out was very easy. Not an overall perfect rating because needs some updates. Blinds have broken hardware and some were rusty. One golf cart has lots of mildew. Description said it would have playstation 4 and keurig. Should have checked before bringing K-cups and games..... Overall, though, it was a clean and comfortable place!

The house was great, well maintained. Great location, two minutes from the beach, we could hear the ocean at night. Long ramp and two large bedrooms on the first floor worked perfectly for my senior parents. What a blessing.

We love this house

This was our second time staying at this house and it was just as special as the first. The seclusion is unlike any other. The two golf carts are great. And it’s in a convenient location on the island, close to the market, wine bar, and jailhouse restaurant. It is close to beach accesses as well. Kris, the host, is incredibly responsive, understanding, and just flat out awesome. Can’t recommend this house enough. We love Bald Head Island, and this house is a large part of the reason why.

Our stay was very relaxing, quiet home, close to the beach, fun for families! We enjoyed the beach, fishing, riding bikes and home-made and take-out meals on the screened in porch. The home is quite comfortable, we enjoyed the island wildlife, and appreciated having the dog along for the trip.

This is the best house we’ve ever rented on the island. Perfect location, close to beach, in the maritime forest, close to the market. Seriously the best location. Place was spotlessly clean, and the host was quick to help when needed. Hope to stay here again and again.

Peaceful Trip

This property is in a good location near South beach, a restaurant & coffee place. We had a great time! We walked to the beach, had breakfast & dinner on the screened in back porch which was nice. We also shopped at the various stores on the island & at the dockside store too. We slept well & enjoyed the house & trip so much. Our dogs enjoyed it too. We didn't have to climb steps at all to sleep or enter the house which we liked. We had no one sleeping upstairs but that was available if needed. Overall a very nice quiet culdesac area & awesome vacation!
