Formerly known as La Hoya, Stella Maris (Latin for “Star of the Sea”) was beautifully updated this Winter by Porchlight Interiors, an ASID Certified designer rated one of the top designers in Wilmington. Nestled in a quiet forest setting beside a protected dune, this spacious getaway offers exceptional privacy while keeping you close to the beach, market, and island shops.




Whether you're a large family or two smaller groups traveling together, Stella Maris is designed for comfort, connection, and unforgettable memories. With five bedrooms, including a newly renovated crofter suite above the garage, and multiple porches perfect for dining, relaxing, or reading in the swing, there’s space for everyone to unwind.




Island Adventures Await - Each day brings new possibilities. With three four-seater golf carts at your disposal, explore the island’s beaches, nature trails, shops, and dining spots with ease. Gather & Savor - The fully stocked kitchen makes it easy to prepare family meals, and the outdoor grill is perfect for summer cookouts. Fresh linens and towels are included in the cleaning fee, and beach chairs are provided so you're ready for a day by the ocean. The nearest beach access is just a 2-minute cart ride or a scenic 0.4-mile stroll away—ideal for catching breathtaking sunsets.

-Stella Maris provides access to Shoals Club or Bald Head Island Club Temporary Memberships. You must join as a temporary member. Temporary membership fees will apply.

-Please keep in mind the BHI CLUB is now capping registration for their guest memberships. If you wish to attend the club during your stay please apply ASAP. Visit the BHI Club website to see and review their rules and fees. Keep in mind there are new rules regarding what days you can attend the club and what activities guest members can use. Contact the club directly for any questions. We do not control club rates, rules, or restrictions. No discount or refund will be provided if club membership is restricted or denied. Please check club websites to verify all temporary membership pricing as rates may change.

-Golf is available with the membership for an additional fee. Contact BHI Club directly for more detailed information.

-Maximum Occupancy: 12 Occupants - Children must be counted within the maximum occupancy unless they are under the age of two (2) and are sleeping in a crib.

-Tenant Requirements: Tenant stated on the Agreement/Booking must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age, and acknowledge that they will occupy the Property during the entire tenancy.

-Manager and owner of the rental property are not responsible for citations received while staying at the property.

-Be respectful of the house and contents - it is someone's home. Respect the neighbors and neighborhood.

-No events or parties- If determined that a party/event is taking place at property, management has the right to evict

tenants and guests with no refund given.

-If determined that a party took place on any of the nights reserved, reservation guest will be charged $500, no exceptions.

-No uninvited guests without permission.

-Bikes and other items are available but not guaranteed due to other guest use.

-A gardener visits 3x/week to water plants.

Great for family get together

This home worked out very well for our extended family of parents, children and 4 small grandchildren. Bedrooms were plenty large, bathrooms served our needs. Big dining room table- and a family space that we initially thought small but ended up working well for our party of 6 adults and 4 small children. Many side porches. Proximiate to the BHI Club, which has great swim center for old and young alike- as well as golf and tennis. Also close to the natural parts of the island, which was what captivated us about BHI. Also beautiful beaches. Our first visit to the island- we never thought ourselves beach people, but BHI has made us think twice. It was just wonderful.

Amazing Vacation

We have been going to Bald Head for the past 8 years and this was the best experience we have had. Sometimes houses on BHI are great but the rental company isn't - or the rental company is great but the house is not. Not only was La Hoya amazing, the commication with the rental company was top notch. They went above and beyond when we couldn't get a tram reservation in time for checkout. They also allow early check-in if the house has been cleaned earlier than the check-in time. There was plenty of trash bags, dish soap, laundry detergent etc not to mention beach chairs, beach towels and THREE carts. We had 4 teenagers with us and the location is perfect. In between BHI Club and the Market, and super close to the beach and the nature overlook. The screened porches were immaculate and serene. We didn't know if we would have to bring the dog, so the pet friendly option was a plus. Even though it is pet friendly, it was super clean and you wouldn't know that pets were allowed - except for the available dog bowls and crate. Book La Hoya!!

BHI Vacation

La Hoya was a great home to settle in and relax with our family for the week on BHI. We are BHI repeat vacationers, but this was our first stay at La Hoya. The home was comfortable, clean and inviting. Great bird watching - it was like living in a tree house. Fabulous location - just minutes from the beach, the grocery store and frequent checks to spot an alligator. It was really nice to have three golf carts to use with our group of 6 adult family members. There's no place like BHI to relax and recharge, and it was great to stay at La Hoya on this visit to the island. Thank you.

Lovely House!

My family of 9 comes to BHI once a year for family vacation, and often we try new homes. This one was walkable to the beach, which was very convenient. It also came with 3 carts, which any larger family coming to the island will appreciate. Overall it was comfortable and clean. The reason why I only gave it 4 stars overall was because there were a few visitors while we were there. Understably maintenance has to be done, but maybe install an automated watering system instead of having people come water the plants. Felt like we were being watched almost, having people come every day. Other than that, great house, would recommend!
