The home is a .3 mile walk/bike to beach, .4 mile walk/bike to jailhouse and .6 mile walk/bike to market.

Nestled in the Maritime Forest, seemingly far away from it all, but surprisingly close to everything: two minutes to the beach or market; three to Old Baldy and the BHI Club. Though you may never want to leave the back porch. After a day or riding the waves, sink deep in the cushions with a cocktail and book and end up quietly pondering the sculptural intricacies of Live Oak trees.
The living room has a cathedral ceiling that floods the room with light and makes the comfortable space feel even larger. The 46-inch smart TV is perched above a rare cedar mantle. Live Edge Oak shelves add more warmth to the room. The open floor plan, flowing into the dining area, gives everyone the chance to be together-and spread out. In the kitchen, stainless steel nestles up to old heart pine shelving. The upstairs bedroom and full bath are the perfect retreat along with a separate living room. In the crofter, over the garage, is yet another queen bed and full bath. Three golf carts. Membership to the BHI Club available.

Bald Head Island Fat Moon house

Nice size house. Good living areas. Very nice to have 3 golf carts as we had 6 people that sometimes wanted to go different places. The crofter bedroom left a lot to be desired. Have to keep dehumidifier on at all times. Mold on shower ceiling and shower liner should have been changed long ago. I know we were in the forest area but the last day we had a snake on the front porch 3 times.

Perfect week

We love BHI so much and this house was great! Good location - can walk to market and the beach (closest beach access was actually handicapped accessible which was great for my older mom). Comfortably slept everyone in modern clean and fresh bedrooms and baths. Kitchen was decently stocked. Could use a few more forks and plates for a house this size. Having 3 golf carts was key as well. Overall would def rent this house again!!

So glad I chose Fat Moon

Upon booking my trip, I was torn between staying within the Maritime Forest, Bald, Head, Island, or staying somewhere with a expensive brand. Are they allowed me to see the coastal beach very closely. I am so happy that I chose to stay at that moon inside the Maritime Forest. So private, so quiet, so nestled in the trees that enhance the relaxation of the trip. As I stayed there, I began to wonder why I ever intend to go back to the North Carolina mountains again. This home upon this island provides the same level of solitude and peace one night seek within the mountains. How did doubt I’ll be bookmarking this home and hoping to stay there again in the future. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay in a great location.

Perfect location

Perfect location and a great house!

We had a lovely time and the house was just what we needed. The location was perfect for us since we had elementary aged kiddos and being close to the market was key. Their beach toys and accessories where in good shape. Plenty of chairs, boogie boards and fishing nets.

A great week at the beach

We do an annual trip to Bald Head. This has been our favorite house we have stayed in over the years. We had two families of four at the house and it was a great layout of bedrooms and bathrooms, kitchen and lounge space. We cooked the majority of our meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. The house was tucked into a quiet neighborhood but was close to the beaches and market. Carts and bikes all worked great! We plan to book this house again next time!

Great family rental

Well-stocked house - lots of extras for kids and babies included (sand toys, boogie boards, baby blankets). Kitchen essentials and furniture pieces were all high quality (not the cheaper versions your may get in some rentals); it truly felt like staying at someone’s house. If you’re going during off-season, there are NOT extra throws or blankets (we stayed for Easter weekend and were chilly). If you have a party of 12, it’s probably best for at least 4 of your party to be 10 or under - otherwise sleeping arrangements may be tight. We were comfortable with 10 people - 6 adults, 2 teens, and 2 grade school-age kids. Other renters may want to consider there is not a lot of sound insulation in any of the main house bedrooms and the room with two beds is immediately off of the main living area. The house has two golf carts - one has rain cover the other does not (that we saw). Four adult bikes were available and well-maintained. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and were very comfortable.
