Miller House Bideford

Quirky detached residence with fine views over Bideford Harbour and set within the old quarter with the Joiners Ale House (live music), Belluno’s Italian restaurant (gourmet food) and a lively artisan market (unique gifts), all close by.

Miller House offers simple accommodation at reasonable rates; arranged on 3 floors it was featured in the film ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ and restored in the 1940’s style, with furniture made to fit its unique shape by the artist owner. Enjoy the Great Escape – no wifi, no landline or postbox, a perfect place to indulge your creativity, art classes can be provided.

Make it your base to explore the dramatic coastline of North Devon – take the Atlantic Highway to Clovelly and Hartland or hop on a ferry to explore Lundy Island. For the less adventurous take a trip to RHS Rosemoor, meander along the Tarka Trail or descend the winding steps at the rear of the house to the ancient St Mary’s Church and historic quayside.

Charming and full of character
Adorable and quirky little house, oozing with character. Comfy beds, great location for local shops and restaurants, and as a base to explore the area. Only slight negative for us was getting used to town noises as we live in a village. The Combat Collection at Cobatton, and Instow beach (both recommended by the host) are worth a visit, and my boys (16 & 14) loved outdoor laser tag at Survival Combat Games.

Travelled with partner
We loved the quirky, unique character of Miller House. The furnishings were very bespoke due to the unusual layout and size of the building. One off art pieces were beautiful throughout the property. The area was quiet and we ate at the fabulous Italian restaurant nearby. Shopping in Bideford was good especially the artisan shops on Mill Street. Shan recommended a trip to Appledore and we had a brilliant day there with a ferry trip to Instow and visit to the farmer’s market. We originally booked Miller House as it is perfectly located for a trip to Lundy. A few more facilities at Miller House would have made our stay more comfortable. There were no cooking facilities other than a microwave oven nor anywhere to hang or store our clothes. The living room needed a little sofa as it only had one armchair. There was no wifi and TV which was fine for just a few days but for any longer would have been an issue. Never-the-less we felt proud of our little place on the heritage trail and it was a safe haven to return to every day. We parked at the long stay car park nearby. Great views of the harbour from the top floor and the sound of church bells on Sunday made for a fine stay. Miller House suits those who love art, history and character in a property.
