Being in the heart of the town Moat View is only seconds from the main street where you will find a variety of quaint little shops and excellent restaurants and pubs, ideal if you donât want to cook after your day exploring the beautiful Cumbrian countryside. There is an abundance of attractions close by, probably the most famous, the iconic Hadrianâs Wall. Within a few miles of Moat View you can walk stretches of the wall and enjoy reading the history along the way. Talkin Tarn Country Park just outside the town is beautiful with its 65-acre lake set amid 120 acres of farmland and woodland, the ideal place to enjoy a walk or even try your hand at some boating on the lake.
The beautiful border city of Carlisle is a short 20-minute drive away where you can visit the castle or just take in some retail therapy at some of the high street shops. You can take a short drive over the border to the beautiful beaches of Dumfries and Galloway and the pretty village of Gretna Green. While in Cumbria, however, no stay would be complete without a visit to the stunning Lake District National Park, now a World Heritage Site, with its mountains and lakes and thriving communities like Keswick and Windermere.
We booked for 2 nights and wish we had booked for longer. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed for a quiet self catering break. This included coffee, tea, sugar, foil, cling film and cleaning products including a new dishcloth. I really liked that there was milk, biscuits and sweets left for our arrival. One of my pet hates is small rough towels that are impossible to dry yourself, we were happy to find soft bath sheets which were especially appreciated after a long day of hiking. We couldnât fault anything about the accommodation and would definitely return.
