Off-grid cabin | Lake views, Deep bath, King bed + Fireplace
Welcome to Camp Nowhere. Once a humble fishermanâs shack, this off-grid cabin is now a sanctuary for rest, romance and reconnection overlooking yingina / The Great Lake in Tasmaniaâs Central Highlands. Curl up by the fireplace, cook over the firepit, unwind in the deep bath with views over the lake or sink into the king-sized bed nook. When (and if!) youâre ready to explore, bush walks, charming small towns and the wild beauty of the Highlands await.
Camp is a fully off-grid cabin and runs on solar and battery power with a rainwater tank. How to spend time here? Read, relax, cook, pour a drink (hot or cold), explore a graffiti-clad wall, and collapse into a king-bed nook designed for dreamingâset against raw Tasmanian bush. It's the perfect retreat for two.
EXPLORE. Camp Nowhere sits on the edge of the UNESCO-listed Central Plateau Conservation Area. Centrally located, itâs within an hourâs drive of Launceston, Devonport, the Cradle to Coast tasting Trail, Deloraine, Lake St Clair and Derwent Bridge, and just over two hours (one way) from Cradle Mountainâperfect to return to after a day of exploring.
DO NOTHING. Sink into the lounges at sunset, rearrange them to cosy up by the fire with a Tasmanian gin, or let the firepit lure you outside for BBQs, marshmallow toasting and stargazing with zero light pollution. No TV is provided, entertainment here is quieter: games, books, magazines and a portable speaker. If you fancy a movie night, please bring preloaded tablet or laptop as off-grid also means no Wifi. Telstra usually holds its own out here; other providers can be hit or miss.
BATH & KITCHEN. The bathroom has a retro vibe, a walk-in shower and a deep bathtub built for soaking, plus locally sourced soap, shampoo and conditioner. The minimalist kitchen has a two-burner stove, bar fridge with freezer, stove-top kettle and camp toaster. Coffee is a ritualâBialetti, French press or Aeropress for grinding beans and brewing your perfect cup. There are also plenty of teas, hot chocolate and other goodies to enjoy with your cuppa.
DESIGN. Designed with Sarah Andrews of the iconic Captainâs Rest, Camp Nowhere is more than a cabinâitâs a mood. Discover hidden nooks, the Camp scavenger hunt and draw inspiration from the many design books provided. This off-grid gem has been featured in Design Files, Remodelista, Discover Tasmania, RACT Journey, Design Stays, Qantas Travel Insider, Elbazin and Lume.
You have exclusive access to the entire camp and its outdoor spacesâgo wild. But, in the spirit of keeping things chill, please respect the local residents' need for peace and quiet.
Camp is tucked away on a private shack ownersâ side dirt road, so you might see a few cars but itâs not on the main road. Drive slowly at night please as there are often furry friends on the road.
Camp Nowhere is strictly an adults-only affair. Babies and children can stay at homeâthis place is for the grown-ups to unwind!
Weâve got the basics covered: oats, butter, oil, salt, pepper, spices, coffee beans and grinder, tea, and choice of milkâplus marshmallows for your toasting pleasure and a few other little treats.
Come prepared with food and goodies to cook yourself as limited access to supermarkets and shops (or head to the local pub 20 min away for a feed).
Be mindful of electricity and waterâtheyâre precious resources here, and we like to keep things running smoothly. Please don't bring you hairdryer and straightener, using them will wreck the off-grid vibe... and our solar powered battery system.
For those with mobility concerns, there are a few steps to access the living room and the deep bath. The king bed is nestled in a cosy nook, and weâve got a built in step to help you in and out. The bespoke kitchen counters are on the high side, but donât worry there's a stool in the entry, just in case you need a little boost to reach.
And finally, due to the plethora of local wildlife, apologies, but we canât accept your furry friends.
