Would highly recommend!

It was a fantastic family trip! Excellent location. Kind and attentive staff. Lovely, unique and clean room with a patio door opening onto the garden. Had a calm and pleasant atmosphere throughout. Really nice leisure facilities (number limited which meant a leisurely and relaxing time, even with children). Fresh and tasty breakfast in a dining room that had a lovely ambience. We’ll definitely be back!

The stay was good with exception of the pool experience where it was unclear and challenging to use the facilities due to the poor service. When the main reason to book for us was the pool it was disappointing how poorly managed it was: unclear swim times for kids, told when we showed up st pool desk at 4:30pm on a Wednesday that the pool is at capacity which it was not, no alternatives or solutions to make up for the poor service.

Disappointing end to an otherwise excellent stay

Excellent location, tucked behind the Fitzwilliam Museum and next to the river. It's worth paying a little extra for a river view - the rooms facing the other way look onto the backs of old buildings, which isn't unpleasant, but the river view is lovely. The decor is fun, themed around the punts that you'll see on the river. Excellent welcome from the team and outstanding service at my afternoon tea on the first day. Downgraded my review because of the weird way the menu presents its main course dishes. It looked to me as if the grilled prawns would come with salad and fries like the other mains, so I was bewildered when presented with prawns on their own. The barman who took my order didn't bother mentioning this but seemed aware of the issue when he delivered the plain prawns. A tiny complementary side salad then turned up, but the right answer is to lay out the menu differently - or treat the veggies and fish-eaters the same way as the meat-eaters.

Good but not perfect

Start off with the positive. This is a lovely University of Cambridge themed Hilton hotel, with themed key cards, university mock memorabilia pictures etc. and replica antique furniture such as a captain’s desk. it is situated in a brilliant location to explore Cambridge and overlooks the river Cam, giving it pleasant views. We stayed in a premium room which was a good size, clean (excluding below), comfortable bed, spotless towels, great bathroom, good amenities and importantly, quiet, I never heard a thing once in our room. Reception staff are polite, welcoming and make an effort to help. The negatives, housekeeping is somewhat lacking. It’s not that the towels, bedding or room were not clean, they were, excluding cobwebs which we had to ask to be cleaned twice before they were. Housekeeping failed everyday of the five nights we stayed to properly top up the tea, Nespresso pods, biscuits and water bottles. One day they only left one towel (two guests), another day they did not leave any toilet roll when there was only a few squares left on the final roll. Having to call / or walk to reception every day after getting back from a long day to have these basic things provided was rather irritating. They also never topped up the body wash in the shower despite this being requested. Something else I would note, there is no liquid hand soap in the rooms, which every other Hilton location I’ve stayed at for 6-7 years has. I would still recommend this hotel, but it’s not perfect
