The staff was very nice and the food was surprisingly good - better than I had expected. The beach access was so convenient and no seaweed in November. If you're going to spend the entire day at the beach, you can rent a parasol.

I would rate this resort Good. The food was the same each day at all the buffets. The selection was not great. And the food trays were not filled often, so lots empty at times. I was shocked to see this resort had no bacon. Beach - no protection from sun, but yes lounge chairs. Pool - great pools and good selection to find a spot. Hotel - needs a remodel very old but do the job for us. Rooms-they were fine as we had a standard room only. Everything worked great in the room. I would recommend this if you’re looking for budget friendly and food is not a concern for you.

Staff was great, especially around the evening bar, adult pool bar and guest services. Location is really close to the night strip and market only $1 for bus and takes like 4 mins or so and the busses run constantly.very safe to get to and from. Hotel is a little run down where things just seem to look dirty/or with grime. Beach was fabulous- can walk for hours in white sand plus the water is various shades of blue and teal - spectacular really.

I’ve stayed at this hotel years ago and it was nice. This time around it was horrible. Staff, food, and drinks. The bartender was rude and asked us to move to the corner. I will never stay here again. The manager did try to “fix” things the 14 hours before my flight was set to leave.

The Hotel looks nice on the pictures, so does the pool and outside areas, however the rooms are outdated. The staff is not friendly, I believe it might be due to the fact that Cancun is a party zone and the staff is used to dealing with drunks or whatever, but the staff, specially the security and bellboys are rude and not friendly at all. Beware of the "free perks"they offer so they can trick you into buying a membership for a time share. This is very aggresive and they use all the possible tactics to lure you into their trap. We had to change the room due to humidity in our room. After I complained and requested a room change, they just painted over the humidity stain and we had to wait until the next day to have another room. There is a LOT of noise in the north area of the hotel due to a water treatment plant that is running 24/7 and it is very annoying and hard to get a good night sleep due to the constant noise. The reservation only restaurants are ok, however at the italian one, we had the worst pizza ever! to be honest gas station pizza is better. I would not come back again.

The room had yellow caution tape all on the outside balcony, due to the building crumbling right above my room. The door handle broke off as I entered the room, literally the handle was in my hand detached from the door. The outside of the front of the room was flooded due to the ceiling leaking, so I was walking over puddles of water as I exited the room. Reported all of theirs to front desk and housekeeping within minutes of checking in nothing was done. Went to use restroom in room and was greeted by roaches crawling everywhere. Took them 24 hours to move me to a different room.

I stayed at the Occidental Tucancún for five days, and overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. Food: Needs improvement. The buffet food was consistently lukewarm and lacked flavor. Most dishes tasted old and under-seasoned. I highly recommend making reservations at the Mexican restaurant onsite—it’s the best option available. However, be prepared to line up early (around 7 a.m.) just to secure a spot. It’s unfortunate that you have to spend part of your vacation standing in line just to get a decent meal. Room: Needs improvement. My friend’s first-floor room had roaches, and her balcony was taped off due to visible decay on the level above. In my room, there was no screen on the balcony door, which felt like a safety issue, especially for families with children. When I moved the wall mirror, the blow dryer fixture actually fell out of the wall! The hot water temperature also fluctuated drastically—from lukewarm to scalding in seconds. On top of that, my room key deactivated daily, requiring frequent trips to the front desk. Service: The service was inconsistent. In the restaurants, there were only two servers handling the entire dining area, so drinks often went unfilled—we ended up getting our own several times. The timeshare staff were also very aggressive, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the resort. Spa: Excellent. The one bright spot of my stay. We booked massages, and they were fantastic—professional, relaxing, and worth every penny.
