The Lancewood Neighborhood Community in Cashiers, North Carolina, is located below Sheep Cliff Mountain along the headwaters of the Horsepasture River. Lancewood was once part of an Old Indian Trail and a gold mine tract. In 1929, Talmadge Seldon Lance (note the T.S. Lance marker located at the entrance of our neighborhood), his wife Maude Pinner Lance, their teenage children, and friends of theirs moved here from Asheville. In 1932 they bought a saw and started a lumber yard. Their original homestead was located on what is now the entrance to the Lancewood Neighborhood. T.S. and Maude Lance were successful with their lumber business and eventually started building half-round log cabins for the buyers of their lots in the subdivision they named Lancewood. They built roads and dams for two lakes and surveyed about 65 lots, some with small acreages and some with larger acreages, all on the former gold mine. Their sales of lots and tracts continued into the forties and fifties, offering dream second homes in Cashiers with the added perk of being close to town. Check out our other rental property. We had a wonderful stay at the Creekside Cottage. Excellent location - within walking distance to town. Our kids loved exploring the backyard. Hosts were kind and very responsive! We hope to be back soon!
We came in late December and found the cottage to be perfect for myself and 2 kids (late teens and early twenties). We stayed in the lower cabin and found everything to be in order. Check in was easy, our host was responsive, and everything we needed was there. We cooked a lot and the kitchen was supplied with plenty of choice of pots/pans/cutlery along with spices, sugarsâŠetc. The bedrooms had enough storage for the 3 of us along with closet space and a modern washer/dryer. The property is beautiful, sitting just downstream of the lake spillway so you are literally right on the creek. The fire pit is massive, sits on the lowest level right on the creek and we had roaring fires to combat the sub-freezing temps. All the wood was providedâŠnice touch. We really enjoyed out stay as we like to come to the area at least once a year. This was our first time staying in Lancewood that has a lot of history if you dig into it. Thanks to Pam and Suzanne for making it possible.
The house was so charming and clean. The creek is very beautiful and the fire pit and chairs are right by it so you can totally enjoy it. The porch furniture is wonderful. The couch and recliner are very comfortable. It was a beautiful place to be. We would highly recommend it.
Love the location, attractive mountain setting, creekside with adjacent small waterfall on grounds. Short walk to downtown Cashiers, nice convenience to Cashiers Greenway trail and community park. Liked having small cabin for my husband and I (added privacy) while my daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter used the bigger cabin. We enjoyed meals all together, and relaxing on the big porch. It was a fun experience. I would stay here again.
We loved our stay at the creekside cottage! It was perfect for our family of 4. Kitchen was well stocked, decks and screen porch were awesome and we loved the area down by the creek. We will definitely be back
Absolutely loved our stay at Creekside. The house was well appointed with everything you need to feel right at home. The location by the creek and waterfall is calming and very beautiful. There is generous outdoor space on the 3 porches including screened in area so you can enjoy the sounds of nature without bugs. The landscaping and hardscaping is beautiful and makes perfect use of the land. We walked to town every morning for coffee at Bucks and shopping at Cashiers Farmers Market, the Wine Cellar. We made use of the gas grill and kitchen amenities to make nice meals and enjoyed in the little paradise that is Creekside.
Such a lovely home, perfect location in Cashiers. Rented it for my parents (70) who loved the porch, creekside fire pit and a recliner my father fell in love with. Very clean, cozy and wonderful experience with the hosts. We had a family emergency and had to change plans a bit and they were so kind and helpful. Can't wait to go back!
Although the weather wasnât perfect our stay at the cottage was. It was important to us to have a pet friendly location, which this was. They thought of everything from pet bowls, extra towels for stream ventures along with poo bags and a disposal receptacle. The living room provided a nice electric fire place which was easy to use and provided warmth on a rainy day. The living room furniture was very comfortable. The screened in porch over looking the stream and waterfall was a relaxing spot for morning coffee. The availability of firewood was nice have. The king size bed was comfortable. The proximity to downtown Cashierâs and amenities was great. The home was extremely clean and well thought out. We will definitely rebook.
This cabin the best stay we have had in Cashiers, NC. We brought our two little dogs. The place was very dog friendly. It was clean and in pristine condition. We loved the outdoor fireplace and used it every night. The stream and the waterfall were so peaceful to listen to at night and in the day. We highly recommend this cabin. Oh PS the kitchen was very well stocked. We cooked 3 nights in a row there.
This was an incredible spot! Walking distance to Buckâs Coffee in Cashierâs with an incredibly beautiful backyard with a stone fire pit and creek. The hosts were great and the cottage was clean and cozy. We would highly recommend this cottage on the creek!
Property was better than described. Cute, wonderful location for walking to "downtown" Cashiers, clean, well organized and welcoming. Family - from 70 y.o. grandpa to 12 y.o. grandson, to 8 y.o. Labradoodle - loved the property and the neighborhood community. (Wife wanted to buy the property and live there!). Not "luxurious", but very comfortable and quaint - in a good way. Thorougly enjoyed our stay in this property. Have been to Cashiers/Sapphire many times with multiple great rentals, but this was our favorite.
This lovely cottage exceeded our expectations! I have been visiting the Cashiers area for many many years and never dreamed this idyllic spot could be nestled in the heart of this village. Will be back!
My husband, our 3 littles (5yo, 3yo and 10mo) had a wonderful week at the cottage! We spent a lot of time on the screened porch, in the creek and adventuring around Cashiers. Everything at the house was top notch - appliances, linens, cutlery and useability. I loved that all the light switches were labeled!
Pam graciously gave us passes to Sapphire Valley Resort for added amenities.
Our adventures included: Sunset/Sunrise Rock & Whiteside Mountain Hikes, Silver Run Falls swimming, Cashiers Sliding Rock, pontoon boat at Lake Glenville. We had great meals at Whiteside Brewing, Happâs Place, Crossroads Custard, Cornucopia, Cashierâs BBQ and Buckâs Coffee.
The property is centrally located and walkable to the townâs offerings. We will be back!
