Printers Row is a `pocket` neighborhood just minutes from the Chicago Loop. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the area became the Midwest hub of the printing industry with historically significant buildings designed by legendary architects like Daniel Burnham, William Holabird and William Le Baron Jenney. Today, many of those historic buildings remain, but the quiet, tree lined streets are now largely residential. Of course, it continues to be a draw for fans of Chicago architecture.
During the day, the neighborhood is an easy walk to offices in the Loop, off Michigan Avenue, or in LaSalle Street financial centers. After hours the district is alive with restaurants, boutiques, book and antique stores.
It boasts famous blues clubs, electric music venues and neighborhood taverns where residents gather. It also has an annual book fair; The Printers Row Book Fair gathers authors, poets, speakers, and, of course, books.
Printer`s Row is also walking distance to Chicago`s Museum Campus, with the Field Museum, Adler Planetariums and Shedd Aquarium, and the newly redesigned Soldier Field.
With a 97 walk score and 100 transit score, you can get everywhere your heart desires in Chicago. The Red Line subway is one of the main subways in Chicago, and is only a block away. Many restaurants, shopping, parks, and museums are within walking distance.

The location and size of this VRBO make it a winner. Our family of five had plenty of room to spread out. The el (metro) is literally around the corner, couldnât be more convenient. And all the major sights are easily walkable. The hosts were very responsive.
We had an amazing stay! The property was exactly as describedâclean, comfortable, and perfect for our trip. The host was outstanding, always quick to respond and very helpful with any questions we had. Their fast communication made everything stress-free, from check-in to check-out. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again!
Large and spacious shared space and living room, lots of amenities like blankets, pillows, and towels. Comfortable beds and many beds and couches. AC in every room. Fantastic place to stay
We stayed here while we were in town for a trade show at the McCormack center. With the easy train access and comfy accommodations this place was perfect for our small group.
We went to Chicago for a long weekend and randomly chose this location. It was very centrally located for our needs and super close to a subway station. Very close to restaurants also (check out Sofi restaurant for great Italian food). The hosts were very communicative and accommodating. Great experience.
We stayed at this property during the Chicago open archery tournament at Navy pier. Even though it was a 20-minute bus ride to the archery tournament each day, we appreciated the space of the apartment and the quietness of the neighborhood. It is right by a subway stop, train station, and several bus stops. The owners communicated with us regularly, and we were very pleased with the accommodations. Would not only recommend this apartment, but anticipate staying here again!
Overall, the location was very good. It is a nice property and is very convenient to all of the sites we visited. The building is older and the property has been somewhat updated. There are signs that it has been used as rental, however. The carpet has stains and there are areas where the paint is peeling. There are no outlets in the bathroom. The building was not always locked but felt safe. Photos show some of the prior damage and highlight the cosmetic issues. The space was great for our group, but the building is not wheelchair friendly which made it more difficult. Overall, we were pleased with the space and would stay again.
Everything was fine especially for the price. It is in a âvintageâ building, like the description says but there were 6 of us and for the price, we could not have gotten a hotel room with as much space for the kids to be and as close to everything that we wanted to do while in Chicago. I was not familiar with the âLATCHâ app so check-in was a little rocky but once we figured it out, we were fine. The apartment was clean and very spacious for the price and it was in a neighborhood where we walked to many good restaurants to eat and once we walked down and got pizza and brought back to the apartment. All in all, it was a good place to stay. Thank you Hosts!!!!
Easy access to the train, shopping and food.
Only struggle we had was only one person could open the door due to the lock/key phone app. We needed two keys. I tried to contact the owner several times but they claimed VRBO blocked our ability to share contact information. I would have thought they had my phone number. There should be a better plan for communication if using the app. My family was locked out of the house the entire day that I was in meetings.
I also found it strange that the owner knew we were not taking our shoes off upon entry. We had no problem complying with their request that came after we entered the home the second time. However, this made me feel like there were cameras inside.
I would also suggest changing the shower head. I normally donât comment on things like this, but I had a hard time rinsing my hair due to low pressure.
Central air and individual room air conditioners kept us cool. Kitchen is very nice.
The location was good and the hosts seem like nice people. The building management is horrible!! We had planned a stay for my wife on her birthday where she could get together with her daughters, who are both in college, and her parents who were 3 hours away. When we walked into the apartment it was 83 degrees inside. We turned on the AC and found out it was not working. We contacted the host who put in an order for repair. On the second day I asked the building management an approximate time for repair. All they said is they are working on it. At the end of the second day nothing was done. Due to this we had to find another place for her parents to stay as they are elderly and could not handle the heat. The AC was never fixed or to my knowledge even looked at in the four days we were there. The few times I asked I was treated horribly by them. I believe most people would have made sure it was fixed on a 90 degree humid day. Worst of all there are no real windows that can be open at this location. so there was little relief. Finally the game room pictured is a disaster where nothing works. Not that is something that is hard to believe. The building owners should be ashamed of themselves
The apartment was exactly as advertised and very clean. The communication with the host was excellent and the location was perfect for a quick 3 night stay in Chicago.
Our family of 6 really loved this spacious "penthouse" for our Chicago vacation. The neighborhood felt clean and safe and we could walk to most of the places we wanted to see while in town. The property owners were extremely easy to communicate with and very responsive. We highly recommend this property
We had a comfortable stay and found the location to be perfect for all of the actives we had planned. We had easy access to the L and could even walk to several of our destinations. The hosts were very accesible and always responded quickly. This was an all around great spot for a fun weekend getaway with friends!
3 of us needed a clean, convenient place to stay near the McCormack Center and this property fit the bill perfectly. Large open floor plan, 3 bedrooms and all the required kitchen appliances (coffee maker!)
Great Location! Easy walk to so many great restaurants, cafes and parks in South Loop
Our family of 5 had a fantastic stay in Chicago. Printers row neighborhood has a lot to offer within walking distance of 3-4 blocks. Harrison train station exits just around the corner from the property. Always felt safe and the secure entrance was a definite positive! The penthouse was very spacious. Tons of windows to brighten up the apartment with natural light. Plenty of beds, clean towels, dishware, ice maker in fridge. Used the kitchen and patio sparingly, but it was nice to have a place to reheat and eat the leftover deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati's! Great communication with the property manager; it is clear that they aim to please! Would definitely book again. Can't wait to come back!
