The Neighborhood:
You're in the quiet folds of inland Pembrokeshire, near the village of Clarbeston Road - a peaceful cluster of farms, woods and country lanes between the Preseli Hills to the north and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park to the south. It's the part of the county that locals keep for themselves: properly rural, mostly birdsong and big skies, with everything you need a short drive away.
What's on the doorstep
- The Preseli Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, rise just to the north â bluestone country, where the stones at Stonehenge were quarried. Walks from car-park to summit (Foel Cwmcerwyn, Carn Ingli, Carn Menyn) take 1â3 hours
- A handful of excellent country pubs within 10â15 minutes â try The Cross Inn (Clarbeston), The Wolfe Inn (Wolfscastle) and The Salutation Inn (Felindre Farchog) for proper Welsh food and a fire in winter
The towns (15â25 minutes by car)
- Haverfordwest â Pembrokeshire's county town: a Tesco, Morrisons, M&S Foodhall, a Riverside shopping centre, restaurants, the medieval castle ruins
- Narberth â boutique-y market town beloved for delis, indie shops, the Queens Hall and Ultracomida
- Fishguard â pretty harbour town, ferry to Ireland, the famous Lower Town setting
- Cardigan â gateway to north Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion's coast
The coast (25â40 minutes by car) - Whilst you're not on top of the beach, you can choose a different one every day!
- Newgale â a vast 2-mile sweep, brilliant for surf, kites, dog walks
- Broad Haven & Little Haven â golden sands, rockpools, a great pub at Little Haven
- Barafundle Bay â regularly voted one of the UK's best beaches; a short walk in from Stackpole
- Freshwater West â wild, cinematic (filmed for Harry Potter and Robin Hood)
- Tenby â pastel-painted Georgian harbour town, four beaches, ice creams, harbour boats to Caldey Island
- St Davids â Britain's smallest city, the cathedral, Whitesands beach, boat trips to Ramsey Island for seals and porpoises
- The Pembrokeshire Coast Path â 186 miles of national-trail clifftop walking; pick any access point along the coast
For families & groups:
- Folly Farm (15 min) â zoo, vintage funfair and farm; reliably brilliant with kids
- Heatherton World of Activities (25 min) â go-karting, archery, paintball, golf
- Bluestone National Park Resort (20 min) â Blue Lagoon waterpark day passes available
A note on the setting
Penty Parc sits down a private lane on 8 acres of its own â lawns, orchard, summer meadow and a tranquil pond. There are no immediate neighbours, no through-traffic, and after dark you're under some of the darkest skies in Wales. Bring a torch for the walk to the firepit, and look up.
