We very much enjoyed the art, lighting, quirky details and history that filled this home. Convenient location across the river (less busy side), but easily accessible and easy street parking. Pedro, the host and owner, was so welcoming and full of details to make our stay in Coimbra and onwards a good one. Truly, a memorable experience!
In many respects, I feel privileged to have been able to stay in this house. Our host, Pedro, was superbly welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. Thank you Pedro!! The house dates from before 1640 (according to an old map). It is on an ancient Roman road, which is part of a pilgrimage camino. The house oozes with character. But it is also quirky, and not always user-friendly, especially to an older, mobility-challenged person. The steps to enter the house are steep and awkward. The large, deep bathtub is a challenge to enter and leave. The spiral staircase is challenging. One of our group found that the flat was cold. Yes, there is a heating system, but it involved building a fire, which seemed too prone to disaster. A more modern accommodation would probably have been more comfortable, but staying in this historic house gave us a rare peek into a corner of Portuguese history, and the opportunity to meet its charming owner.
Host was very welcoming, communicative, and generous in his recommendations to places and restaurants. The place was exactly as described, clean and comfortable, the rooftop garden is a lovely lookout onto the city across the river.
Pedro is a fantastic host who is full of information about Coimbra and the rest of Portugal. The home is very comfortable and right across the river from old town Coimbra. Lovely outdoor space with a spectacular view. There is a nearby bus that takes you to the university for only 2 euros. Excellent restaurants within a very short distance. Highly recommend!
A cozy and wonderful property. Our favourite spot of our 3 week vacation. The restored home had lots of interesting features and we loved bbq-ing in the yard and view over the river. Pedro was so enthusiastic about both his home and the surrounding area. He gave us great suggestions of places we never would have seen otherwise.
Our family had a great time in Coimbra and a great stay at this house. Pedro was an outstanding host who was very proactive and attentive. He met us at the property with a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese, before giving us the full run down of how things worked. The location was good for accessing the town itself, and the two, full-size grocery stores in close proximity made shopping easy. The kitchen was well-appointed and you could easily prepare full meals. The top floor of house where the bedrooms were located was cold at night, but we did visit in December. The downstairs was cozy with the help of fire which heated the radiators and a wall-mounted unit. (Pedro was more than kind to bring more wood for the fire when needed.)If returning to Coimbra, I would certainly look to stay there again.
This 16th century house is best described as âfunkyââŠin a good way. There are some different aspects to staying hereâŠthe stairs to the upper floor, the difficult locksâŠbut really, it is a very liveable spot. We walked into town every dayâŠup to the university and Castro Museum ( both were excellent). We did have trouble finding the house and clearer GPS directions would help.
We had a lovely stay at Pedroâs home. He was great with the check in process and made sure we were well taken care of. He was very easy to keep in touch with.
This is a fabulous old house with a great view of Coimbra and within easy walking distance of the old city. It's safe and has a wonderful yard and lots of interesting features. Pedro, the owner, is super helpful and gave me tons of great tips and recommendations. Plenty of space to spread out and about the best location you could have. I highly recommend it. Coimbra is also a super interesting city and there are many other great places within a hour or so. Thanks Pedro!
This property was better than expected. This home is beautiful.
The location was perfect for exploring Coimbro. We spent our mornings drinking coffee and our evenings drinking wine in the backyard overlooking downtown Coimbro - a fantastic view.
Pedro was the perfect host. He was very responsive and provided us with great restaurant suggestions and sites to see.
I hope we can come back
Pedro is the most welcoming, lovely host we encountered on our Portugal road trip. We spent 2 nights on our journey in his unique, interesting home. Pedro and his home were equal delights! He gave us so many local tips, maps, and suggestions. We would not have seen some of these places without a localâs touch. The home is fully equipped and spacious for a family. The two of us and our two teenagers were very comfortable. The home is within walking distance to many things. The home and host are rare treasures! Thank you Pedro!
On the side of the river opposite the University. It has the most beautiful views of the city and University buildings. There is an easy walk across the bridge to the centre of activity and all the local tourist sites. We could not have dreamed of better location. Our host Pedro was very welcoming and helpful in guiding us to the best sites. We could not have enjoyed our visit more and certainly would recommend this lovely house to everyone. The accommodation matches the VRBO pictures very well. Thank you Pedro.
Pedro is a star, met us at check in and showed us this absolute gem of a property. Very unique with incredible views across the river of the central city and university. Excellent travel advice and responsive. The house is fantastic, quirky and cute. Location canât be beat. Restorative stop in the Camino.
Pedro and his delightful wife created the very most beautiful experience for us. The home is lovely, as is their hospitality. I could not recommend this more highly.

Very unique house with all the amenities you expect and more
When looking online for a nice place to stay in Coimbra, we were not sure what to expect. And we found a perfect, unique and very pleasant house. What a nice house sitting on a hill. The house itself was like a real home with modern facilities. Pedro and his lovely wife met us and showed us around. We really enjoyed the stay and may have stayed longer if we could. The bathroom upstairs where the bedrooms were is huge. Pedro is also very knowledgeable with Coimbra and also Portugalâs history. We really wanted to have a traditional meal and Pedro recommended a place that was just wonderful. Back to the house, the downstairs are where the living areas are and upstairs the bedrooms and such. We recommend this house to stay at and if we go to Coimbra next, this is where we will stay. Thank you Pedro for being a perfect host.
