Crabby Mermaid: 8 Bedrooms, 775 Ft to Beach, Saltwater Pool, Hot Tub

Happiness will abound when your family chooses to stay at the Crabby Mermaid. It is a large and comfortable vacation home that has a private saltwater pool, hot tub and it is only 775 feet from the beach access in the Whalehead Beach neighborhood. [Note: No dogs or other animals are allowed in this home.]

Beds: 2 King Masters, 4 Queen Masters, 2 Pyramid Bunk Sets (1 Master); 18 Towel Sets provided

TOP LEVEL:
The Great Room encompasses the entire top level with a spacious layout that include the living, dining and kitchen. The living area that has a wraparound sofa and 2 love seats for comfortable viewing of the large flat-screen TV. The dining table seats 10 and the kitchen island has chairs for 8 guests. There is a half bath by the dining area. The large, well-equipped kitchen is stocked cookware and other meal prep items. Nearby, there is a breakfast table that can seat 4 early-risers in the morning. There are views from the top level with wide sun decks that span 3 sides of the house facing east, west and south. The rooftop deck also provides both Atlantic Ocean views and sunset views to the west over the Currituck Sound. [Note: gas fireplace is not available for guest use.]

MID LEVEL:
The entire floor has a total of 5 Master Suites that flank the center hall. There are 3 Queen Masters and a Pyramid Bunk Master which have deck access to either the front or to the back of the house. The King Master Suite does not have deck access. All bedrooms have a flat-screen TV and there are shower/tub combos in their master baths.

GROUND LEVEL:
Three more bedrooms are on this floor include a second King Master Suite and the fourth Queen Master Suite with shower/tub combos in their master baths. The Pyramid Bunk bedroom which shares a full bath with the Lounge area. This Lounge offers more seating and a spot for guests to hang out, either to play the air hockey or enjoy the pool and hot tub outside. A kitchenette with microwave and a full-size refrigerator are available for extra beverages and groceries.

EXTRAS:
The outdoor area offers a beautiful saltwater pool measures 11' x 24' (pool open May to mid-October; pool heat available for an additional fee). There is plenty of outdoor furniture, a large hot tub and two grills: a park-style grill for charcoal and a gas grill. A cabana has a picnic table and an outdoor shower before using the pool or hot tub and an outdoor half bath. In the front driveway, active family members can practice shooting some hoops into the basketball net. Crabby Mermaid is 775 feet from the neighborhood beach access so it is an easy walk for everyone to enjoy both the beach and this beautiful vacation rental home. There is parking for 6-7 vehicles.

May Vacation with the family

The home was clean and provided us with rooms for the family to spread out.Having the heated pool was worth the extra money, given that the ocean was a bit cold for the little ones.The home could use some updating.Overall, we were all very happy with our stay.

Great Family Vacation

The property is spacious and was able to handle my family of 13 with ease. Short distance to the beach. Had everything we needed. A few minor problems but the management handled them immediately. Would definitely return to the Crabby Mermaid!

Perfect Property for Us

The layout of the house was perfect - kitchen and living room area on the top level, bedrooms on levels one and two. Kitchen was amazingly equipped - it had everything! We traveled with six adults and five children between 2 and 6 years of age. Pool was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed lunches at the picnic table by the pool. There was plenty of outdoor deck space. The decor in the house was very tasteful - we enjoyed going on "art hunts" to count mermaids, crabs, etc. We also enjoyed the location of the house - less than 2 miles to the Food Lion and Seafood Market, and only a few blocks to the beach. While we cannot do this trip every year, we will look to rent this house again when we return in 2026. Sincere thanks to the owners who made this property available to rent.

I’d give it 4 stars

Overall it went well but we had 2 infants and was not able to access the house earlier than 4. Which was very worrisome in 92 degree heat. Also there were no bikes there or beach chairs. The kitchen was very well furnished but the electric outlets on both sides of the sink and on the island quit working on Friday.

Nice property but needs a few upgrades

House was clean but carpet is old. AC vents on the 3rd floor were dirty and need to be changed. We have family members in HVAC that noticed that. Ocen and stove really need to be replaced. Could not open window in the 2nd floor front window. All this to say we had a good time but we would not rent this property again.

A longtime dream come true.

All the kids and grandkids under one roof for multiple days by the beach. We did it and we did it with little effort. Accommodations and cleanliness were key along with bathrooms for each of the five families and more for the kids. Dream come true.

great overall house and location, a bit in need of updating

The house and location were just as advertised. We were an extended family of 12 and had plenty of room. The kitchen has loads of dishes, cooking utensils and appliances. The furniture in the great room is worn and should probably be replaced. Most of the rooms are carpeted with a shag carpet that does not work well for a beach house. The front porch was covered in cob webs. The gas grill needs a through cleaning. The bottom was lined with at least an inch of ashes along with a partial hot dog. Only 4 of the 6 gas pipes would light, and the igniter does not work. I would rate the overall house with 3.5 starts given the size of the house and the location.

Our stay was great. Loved the location.

The house size was great for the number of people we had. We did have an issues with the lower level air conditioning unit, but the rental company was quick to resolve it. We also had some clogged shower drains and they fixed that right away too. Overall it was a great trip and a great place to stay for the week.

Nice House Room for Improvement

The home was nice, however, it was very dusty and spiderwebs were everywhere. The furniture was really old and should be replaced, the carpet is worn out and also should be replaced. Overall, we had a great vacation, but a little TLC to the house would make it a jewel.

Some issues that had to be fixed.

Loved location. Our toilet was severly cracked and flooded after 1 use. Took 2 days for a full replacement. Being the hosts, I'm glad it was us and not one of our guests. I'm hoping to receive some compensation for the major inconvenience of not having a working toilet for 2 whole days. Otherwise, lovely property.

Awesome house

This house had everything. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need to cook, bake, chop, blend anything. The house was clean and provided the perfect home for our family of 16. Everyone had their own room and bathroom and we loved the pool and hot tub. Lots of memories made here. Highly recommend.
