Romantic retreat with stunning views of Croton River Gorge, a birder haven
Stay in a carriage house next door to an historic main house built in 1907 that was once a speakeasy and a filming site for silent movies and early "talkies" before Hollywood was Hollywood. Croton-on-Hudson, a 50-minute train ride from Manhattan along the scenic Hudson River, is the perfect get-away for those seeking a romantic retreat or a base to go bird watching in nearby Croton Point or other village bird sanctuaries. A quiet place if you want to start that elusive novel. The carriage house site, with an accessible dock right on the super-pure Croton River, offers kayaking, fishing or swimming . Lots of nature trails, including those surrounding Hudson National Golf Club. Good eating in the village including the Ocean House and Fratellis. Baked by Susan and Little Star Pastry offer great breakfast fare and desserts. The Black Cow is the local coffee house, offering own-roasted beans. The house itself is newly renovated with a brand-new kitchen and main bathroom. There is free Wi-fi and your own Amazon Echo smart speaker for your weather, news and music needs. A stereo system in the downstairs living room offers a supply of vintage CDs with jazz, rock and folk favorites. A small library of classic novels can be found in the upstairs dining/sitting room. As hosts, we live in the main house of the property, which offers off street parking and some bicycles if you want to explore the area. Silver Lake, a hidden village beach, is just up the street if you don't want to swim alone at the property amid the ducks, geese and bald eagles. We find it magical and hope you will too.

Lovely two weeks in the carriage house on the Croton River. Hosts Patrick and Kathryn were attentive and helpful, the area was full of fun adventures for my husband, a cyclist, and me (jogger and kayaker). Swimming in the Croton from the dock was so great, especially on warm days. Kayaking in the Croton was peaceful and full of fun water birds.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the carriage house. Just love the setting, the tranquility, and the proximity to all that we wanted to do...our grandson's high school graduation, my 60th high school reunion, and visits with family and friends. I had not had a swim in the Croton River for many years; a dip in the river brought back childhood memories. Even enjoyed a day in NY including a Broadway show, "Hadestown," and dinner at Bobby Van's Grill. We appreciated Patrick's prompt response to any questions we had and we were grateful that he brought in an extra air conditioner as well as an evaporative air cooler (swamp cooler)...outside temperatures were in the 90's all week. He is a great host. We would stay at the carriage house again.

Carriage House
We loved our stay at the Carriage House. Patrick and Kathryn were wonderful hosts. They provided information in a timely manner, and were quick to respond to any questions. Our accommodations were clean, comfortable and well appointed, and Patrick and Kathryn included truly thoughtful touches. The location was perfect for exploring Croton-on-Hudson and the Hudson Valley. We'd love to come back!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway!
Patrick and Katherine are excellent hosts with an incredible property in an amazing location. We had such an incredible time. The carriage house is so comfortable and welcoming. I absolutely loved just sitting on the balcony enjoying the beautiful view, birds, and my coffee. This was my first time using Vrbo, (glad to have found an alternative to another site I no longer support). Wow, I have been missing out!! The stocked fridge was such a lovely surprise. Everything was just fantastic. Our hosts did a great job. Thank you again for everything. I had such a wonderful birthday weekend in your beautiful place!

Stunning, Relaxing, and Unforgettable
I hesitate to sound too over the top in my praise of the Carriage House in Croton, but it’s difficult not to. The space is so comfortable, cozy, and filled with beautiful Mexican art pieces every where you look. Nothing has been forgotten by the hosts, who are charming and gracious, while allowing guests absolute privacy. The Carriage House is surrounded by natural beauty everywhere you look. From the Croton River below, to the wild turkeys in the morning and evening, and the omnipresent sound of numerous song birds in the trees. It’s a spectacular place to take photos, explore, or simply relax in the peaceful, stunning surroundings. All the furnishings have been selected with care for the comfort, pleasure and convenience of guests. A well supplied, full-kitchen is a bonus, as is the extra half-bath and living area downstairs.I would have stayed indefinitely, if I could have - I may even like it more than my own home! :) Highly recommended, without any caveats. If you have the opportunity to stay in the Croton Carriage House - take it!
