Embassy Suites Southfield

Pros: The staff worked hard to provide quality customer service.
The hotel is in drastic need of updating and maintenance. The air conditioning barely worked; there were fans in the lobby and the room never became cool although the thermostat was on 60. The first room had physical damage to the structure; a busted bathroom door and a shower head that spewed water all over when turned on. The second room I was in had fried wires for the air conditioning and it didn't work at all. The third room had a slight presence of air but the room was always mildly warm. Many of the cable stations were overrun with static. The property was in need of painting as the room doors were chipped. The hot tub had excessive chemicals that caused your skin to itch when entered. The staff tried their best to be accommodating and were very friendly and apologetic for the conditions. It was disappointing to see that a Hilton property was this poorly maintained.

No problems with this hotel stay.

Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Rooms need modernizing and all elevators need to be working.
It was strange that the hotel indicated they were fully booked and had no king bed sized suites when we made reservations in August prior to our December stay. When we arrived the parking lot was nearly empty, and the entire stay the hotel was nowhere near as busy as they claimed. We had plenty of options for rooms. We selected a double bed room instead of the king bed suite given we had 4 children with us and two adults. The cleaning staff was efficient and cordial with notes wishing us happy holidays. The variety of hot food was good and the chef is always pleasant.

Cons: Replace the alarm clocks.
The one thing that stands out in my mind is the alarm clock. I guess the guest before had left it set to ring at 7:15am. You guys should consider replacing those alarm clocks - they're extremely loud and sound more like a fire alarm than clock. I honestly thought my room was on fire when I was startled awake. Also the alarm clocks are just poorly designed: the snooze button on the top of the clock is tiny and there are several other buttons around it - I resorted to unplugging the alarm clock to turn it off because the sound was so jarring.

Worst Night in awhile at a hotel

The hotel had no electric and didnt know why. We had to walk up to our room and they didnt comp you very good at all. here a club sandwich, sorry!! I also had to take a cold shower and shave in the morning, no tv, no internet. Terrible!!

Good trip

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Hotel was nice. Food was good. Service was really nice. Enjoyed myself there on business. Good place to come back and relax. Will defintely book there again with my next trip to detriot area.

IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!

Most of the furniture was broken. Carpeting VERY worn. Room service was good, but trays were left outside my door for TWO days--even after I called to have them removed. There was an enormous amount of mold under the sink. Management could not have cared less about customer satisfaction.

SMOKERS ONLY!!!

The hotel staff were very pleasant when checking in, however, I am an HH Diamond member. The hotel is undergoing a significant renovation so I have taken that into account. If you are a NON SMOKER, do not even think about eating in the restaurant. Smoking is permitted amnd the air was disgusting. This was also the venue for the Manager's evening reception - maybe a ploy to get you out quickly. The breakfast was not up to the usual Embassy standards, but that was because of the renovations, although the rates are not discounted because of this. The newly renovated bedroom was very clean and tidy - until I pulled out a clean bath towel and found a huge black/green mold growth on it. I would not stay here again, purely because of the smoking in the hotel.

Great for families

The size and room separation are great for familes. Having breakfast right there without having to load up the family is very convenient and the food was good. Staff was helpful and friendly. Easy access to get downtown for the Tigers game. Will stay there again if/when I return to Detroit for a UM or Tigers game.
