Beautiful Secluded Lake Front Retreat | 100 yr old Log Lodge | Dog-Kid Friendly

Briar Lake Lodge is a unique, beautiful log cabin built in 1923. 30 min from downtown Duluth, there is plenty to do year-round: fish, swim, kayak, snowshoe, and more. Enjoy an indoor 6-person sauna and a grand stone fireplace in the living room. There is a dock with a canoe, kayaks, and a paddleboat, as well as a large patio and a fire pit for family BBQ. A little piece of heaven. Large gatherings by request only.

The space
Charming and rustic, this 106-year-old log lodge offers beautiful views and features a grand stone fireplace. Situated on Briar Lake (also known as Trout Lake), the lodge provides year-round activities for the entire family. It includes three private bedrooms on the main floor (two with queen beds and one with a king bed) and two private lofts upstairs, each equipped with two queen beds (ladder-type stairs are required to access the lofts). Additionally, there is a full-sized hideaway couch for extra sleeping space.


SELF CHECK-IN:
Our self-check-in guest access system is designed to provide guests with a convenient way to check in without assistance.

We request that guests complete their check-in between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. This is to ensure we can help you effectively and prevent any inconvenience or difficulty in reaching us later in the day if you have any issues.

A door code and check-in directions will be included in your welcome letter, sent three days before your arrival.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
Dogs are welcome, but a nightly fee per dog applies. Please reach out with any questions or concerns about our dog rules before booking. ($35 per dog, per night)

There are three stairs down to the sauna and the primary bedroom.

Lofts do require climbing a ship-type ladder. Be sure to view photos if you are concerned!

A large, authentic log cabin with plenty of room and comfortable beds. We especially loved the front dining room with windows looking outover the lake and the patio/firepit.Briar Lake is a small, shallow lake with weeds and moderate clarity, so it wasn't ideal for swimming, but the kids and grandkids enjoyed the paddleboards....and the sauna was a nice feature.Great communication and very easy check-in and check-out. Very nice to have a washer/dryer and dishwasher.

Relaxing time at the lake

This large log cabin was a very fun spot to stay. The cabin construction was amazing to examine. The large enclosed front porch has a beautiful view of the lake with loons and osprey. There are nice outdoor spaces too, for games and relaxing. Close enough to Duluth to do a few city things too. Clean and cozy. We would stay here again.

Elegant & cozy!

Easy check in, was good to know there would be no cell service in advance so we could plan for that. Lots of extra amenities provided (single use toothbrushes, combs, etc.) Decor was gorgeous and luxurious, the perfect blend of rustic and elevated. The well water definitely had a distinct color and fragrance—I’d personally recommend bringing plenty of bottled water. Photos of the rooms or the view don’t do it justice, nearly every room overlooks a new angle of the lake glittering between the trees. Would recommend to anyone who needs a place on the north shore that sleeps quite a few people!

Great winter getaway

Perfect for a group of friends with kids. The large fireplace was a big draw for us and it did not disappoint (though be sure to bring plenty of firewood to keep the flame going). We enjoyed playing in the snow with the kids out on the frozen lake and even found some nice Superior Hiking Trail hikes nearby, which were wonderful in the snow. Would absolutely stay again.

Nice rustic beach house

I booked this place because i had family coming over from other state that wants to experience winter here in cold Minnesota. They were very pleased with the place. They wanted to experience walking on a frozen lake and they got to experience that. The lodge has a good space for everyone. The only thing negative was that the loft/attic room was very cold because we did not use the portable heater that was provided.. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in this place and we would like to see it again in the summer.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful location.

A beautiful cabin in an incredibly beautiful location. The house was spacious, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved all of the reading spots throughout the house and the seating area around the bonfire pit was great! Unfortunately the burner on the grill was rotted out and grill didn’t have enough propane for a single use. Also, the sauna only got up to 120 degrees after taking about 2 hours to heat up, which was a bummer, as we were really looking forward to using it.

With four family and 4 little ones 0-3yo. It was the perfect size for our group. We enjoyed the long dinner table inside and long picnic table outside the comfortably fit all 12 of us. The location was quite and the yards was perfect for the toddler to run around in. The main room was perfect a spot for all the adult to sit and the kids to play with toys. We enjoyed the feature of the doors locking in the main room to help keep the crawlers in one location. It was very infant friendly in the aspect of no stairs, just ladders to the lofts. We had a wonderful time it will definitely be a core memory for our friend group.

Great place to disconnect

The lodge was a great place to disconnect from the hustle and loudness of life around us. While the wifi works well, it was nice to not be constantly looking at emails or taking phone calls, the ability to disconnect was great. Fishing at Briar Lake was slow but enjoyable.
