Edinburgh was amazing; the 'bed and breakfast' was located in a strategic location. I made an initial mistake of not booking an ensuite, but the confirmation indicated a private bath, but did not state it was across the hall. So, I did not change my reservation, again my mistake. But, it turned out that someone had left a dirty sock in the bathroom so it wasn't entirely private. Also, the shower did not function and that took days to repair. This might have all been handled amicably in person, but the hotel communicates only through an email system--which is not the definition of hospitality. There should be an on-site person to take care of patron concerns. That is standard practice. I did get a refund, but it was a disappointing experience.
