Historic 1850's downtown home, located downtown, very close to Lake Shelbyville.
Scarlett O'Hara would have felt at home gliding down elegant, open staircase in this Italianate home built in 1858. It was fondly nicknamed the Shelbyville "Tara." The Antebellum elegance in the woodwork and architecture has been maintained throughout the years.
Perfect for couples, solo adventures business travelers, families (with kids) or vacations utilizing Lake Shelbyville. Picture perfect settings for wedding day photos and ample area for wedding day prep. Ample parking on site. Located in downtown Shelbyville within walking distance of several restaurants and shops.
Newly updated emenities throughout the STR. Large rooms with televisions in both bedrooms and the living area. The kitchen is set up for simple dining, air-fryer and grill, dishwasher and refrigerator. A washer and dryer are also included in this unit. Entry into the building through a passcode. The apartment is located upstairs.
Did not know the living living space was on the second floor,(20) stairs, older persons with bad knees, hips and back should look twice and it should have been stated on the description and amenities. No stove or or cook top as I was told by the person renting this unit. Water pressure in the bathroom shower was very minnimal. No coffee maker , only a amall unit that takes K-cups, one at a time. Short on eating utensel. The unit was clean , only beds for two couples I suppose not four male heteral sexual not related, only fish together.
The space is more roomier than we thought! Very clean. A little confusion in getting into the property but Mark was very prompt in responding and helping us.
We chose this place due to its location in downtown Shelbyville and short drive to Lithia Springs Marina. It has beautiful architecture, which we loved online and in person. The unit was clean and ready for use when we arrived. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and responsive to messages. While it was nice overall, we found the VRBO listing to be a bit misleading from what we expected. The listing mentioned three bedrooms, while we had only two formal bedrooms with one family/living room with a pull out couch to sleep. Not a big deal, but not what we were expecting. Additionally, likely due to the homeâs age, there is no oven in the kitchen. Again, not a big deal, but we had to adjust our meal planning as a result. Finally, we found that the one bathroom in the unit does not have a locking door, which made privacy a bit tricky at times. Again, we loved the beautiful architecture, but were expecting something just a bit more updated. Thanks again for helping our family with our short getaway!
Other than it being extremely warm in the bedrooms and the battery on the smoke detector going bad, the house was perfect. We went and bought fans at the local Walmart for our second night to help cool it off. This was for the upstairs unit, it was nice and cool downstairs when we came in.
This is not a private property, does not have 3 bedrooms, and there is definitely no hot tub. The owner has rented out the downstairs where you enter the property. This is an old house converted into apartments and not a private residence. The owner claimed the third bedroom was the living room couch that was very uncomfortable. The entire apartment is filthy. My child walked around for all of 2 minutes with her shoes off (because we take our shoes off in our home) and her feet were pitch black. We ended up leaving this disaster and getting a hotel. Still waiting on VRBO to make this right. I would have stayed somewhere else but there were no other options in this area. Camping would have been a better option than this place! Complete fraud!
The home is exactly as described. Even with the more modern amenities it retains its classic charm.
My only suggestion is to add that this is an upstairs dwelling in the description, in case any visitors have mobility concerns
We would definitely recommend!
The rental should be listed as a 2 bedroom; the sectional couch is considered the 3rd place to sleep--not the best to sleep on; since a sectional has a tendency to separate when you move around on it. We had 6 adults in the unit. The Unit is spacious--it is the entire upper level of the house. Make sure you can do steps. It was a great location. Didn't spend much time in the house. Great location.
Provided 2 towels for 4 adults on a 3 day stay. I reached out via email/mobile prior never was able to get hold of anyone until check in. Did not get correct key code until I had to call in (first communication). On Netflix - the icon has â lesser peopleâ log in .
We really enjoyed our stay here. Great location, plenty of parking, and the place had everything we needed.
The only negatives- the bed in the main bedroom needs updated. When two people lay in the bed it sinks in the middle. The shower has zero water pressure (Iâm sure if the shower head was changed to a smaller shower head than the rainfall head thatâs in there it would be better). Also, no hot water to the kitchen- not sure why that is.
We had a great stay at this property. Great communication with the host, and alot of history in the house. We would definitely recommend this property.
My bridesmaids and I had a great time spending the night here before the wedding. It allowed us to have time to prepare for the festivities. Beautiful home!!
We could not have choose a better place for our mini family vacation for our nieceâs wedding. If ever we find ourselves back in Shelbyville this is likely the place we will be staying. Very easy from beginning to end.
