The Neighborhood:

Hunter sits in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, making it an ideal home base for a classic upstate escape—big mountain views, forested trails, and four-season adventure. The area is best known for Hunter Mountain, where winter brings skiing and snowboarding, and warmer months deliver hiking, scenic lift rides, mountain biking, and a full calendar of festivals. Just beyond the house, you’ll hear the nearby waterfall and creek—a peaceful backdrop for morning coffee, post-hike downtime, and quiet evenings in the woods. Whether you’re here for outdoor thrills, fall foliage, festival weekends, or a quiet reset in the mountains, Hunter delivers the perfect mix of nature, culture, and small-town charm.

Beyond the slopes, the surrounding towns add a ton of character. Nearby villages like Tannersville and Palenville bring that small-town Catskills charm—think local markets, coffee stops, antique shops, and casual spots that are perfect after a day outside. You’ll also find plenty of scenic pull-offs and photo-worthy moments in every direction, especially during peak fall foliage when the mountains light up in reds and golds.

Route 23A is a must-drive and part of the experience all on its own, winding through the dramatic Kaaterskill Clove with waterfalls, overlooks, and some of the region’s most iconic scenery. It’s the kind of road where you’ll want to take your time—stop for a short hike, chase a viewpoint, or detour toward a trailhead. If you’re looking for a classic Catskills day, pair a morning on the mountain with an afternoon exploring Tannersville’s Main Street, then wrap it up with great food and a relaxed après-ski feel.

Bedrooms are spacious and cozy. The setting is peaceful, deep in the woods by a river and waterfall—perfect for hiking. Feedback and Recommendations for Our Recent Stay

Dear Management, We're currently on our way back to Syracuse on I-90. I followed the departure instructions, but due to our packed VW GTS, I couldn't open the trash bin. Instead, I placed the trash in the blue recycle bin. I wanted to express my appreciation for the wonderful stay at your VRBO home. I highly recommend it and have already posted a glowing review on my Facebook page. However, I did want to provide some feedback. My partner, Alessandro, isn't an outdoorsy person and spent most of his time reading. He suggested a few additions to make the stay more enjoyable for book lovers and musicians: A reading light A TV Acoustic guitar strings (the B string on the guitar is currently broken) Guitar straps A variety of guitar picks A mouth tuner or a phone app to tune instruments An electric piano I was able to stream football games on my iPad using Apple TV. It's worth noting that a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended for navigating the area. I also wanted to express my gratitude to Josh, who was extremely helpful during our stay. He took me grocery shopping on Saturday and even helped get our car out of a snowbank. He's a great asset to your team, and I appreciated his kindness and hospitality. I tipped him $100 for his troubles. Thank you again for the wonderful stay. I'm looking forward to renting again in the future with girl friends that are outdoorsy. . Alessandro said he would do a painting of RRicky Martinwoutdoorsy friends.
