La Cabaña Escondida...the Perfect, Private Getaway
Our beautiful Davis Mountains surround this cozy cabin, nestled in Limpia Canyon, just minutes from downtown Fort Davis and located on part of the historic Sproul Ranch! The cabin sleeps four in a one bed/one bath, including full-size sleeper sofa in living area. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking needs. Two covered porches (back porch screened) provide the perfect spot for entertaining, bird watching, star gazing, reading and relaxing. Come sit back, relax, enjoy the views, and take a hike!
You are really by yourself in a lovely cottage in a canyon, you can hear the highway about 1/2 mile in front of the cabin, but you really don't see it, you feel like you are out there by yourself, very nice, nice hiking trail up the hills behind you. Nice front porch and screened in back porch. It rained a lot while we were there, and the rain sounded great on the front porch roof.
This was a favorite stay for every family member. Total privacy yet close to town and other area attractions, endless opportunities for exploring and hiking, and amazing wildlife. We will absolutely come back.
Cabin was just as pictured, a/c units worked very well to keep cabin cool. Porches were perfect for listening to birds, especially early morning & late afternoon. We hiked the hills behind the cabin (steep & rocky) for gorgeous views! Highly recommend RNR Smokehouse in Ft. Davis for lunch - they close around 3.
Weâve been looking for a private getaway and this is just what we needed. The morning sun was amazing! We saw plenty of wildlife and really enjoyed the mountains. The property manager was prompt with her responses and was very helpful.
We loved the cabin and the secluded location. Porches on each side gave us a beautiful view on each side. The decorating was gorgeous and cabin had everything we could have ever needed. Enjoyed watching the wildlife around the cabin. Would love to go back again.
The cabin was perfect. Close to town but far enough away to feel like you were out in the middle of nowhere. Cabin was clean and stocked with everything one would need. Had water dripping that enticed birds to come to drink. Could sit in screened in porch to watch the birds. The only thing that would have made it better is if they had a king size bed in the cabin.
Great location if you are going to see the McDonald Observatory or take the scenic loop around the Davis Mountains. Only a 30 minute or so drive to Marfa or Alpine. About an hour and a half to Terlingua. Really cute cabin with great views on front and rear porches. Comfortable bed, all you need in the kitchen. We would stay again.
Enjoyed the opportunity to stay at a small cabin in the middle of a big ranch with even bigger views. This cabin and it's surroundings are in line with what's described in the listing, and is great for a solo trip, couples getaway, or a small family (3-4) vacation. The modern amenities (wifi, A/C, etc.) are all great and functional, however, this place really shines when you simply step outside to the open front porch, or to the screened in back porch. The views and sounds of nature are worth the long "driveway" to the property, and don't miss the wonderful views of mountains and huge trees along the driveway. I will definitely be back!
The cabin offers seclusion, wildlife, and all the amenities one needs to have a relaxing stay while only a 5 minute drive to Fort Davis. The lack of light in the area makes for great star gazing.
We were so very happy with the house- very comfortable for our family of 3, clean, lots of porches and shady places to lounge, amazing views, secluded, wildlife all around, and so much space to hike and explore. We would definitely stay again.
This was our 3rd time staying at the cabin. Great spot with all the comforts of home. Remote but close enough to town and the state park. We will be back! Thank you for sharing your house Jennifer.
We spent the week here for our honeymoon, it was wonderful. We had plenty of amenities, everything we needed to cook meals with, and enjoyed the solace together in nature. We will be back in the future!
Great stay for our family of 4! The cabin is very clean & cute, well represented by the photos. Itâs very quiet & great for seeing the stars outside your door. Stayed here as we visited Big Bend, Marfa, Ft. Davis. The whole town lost power for a little bit during our stay which caused some issues, but our host was quick to respond & handle the situation. We would definitely stay here again.
Very well organized cabin. Easy drive to the property. Javalina, turkeys and deer add to the experience. Loved having coffee on the porch while enjoying the mountain views.
We cannot express how wonderful your cabin was for us. My husband loved the hiking and I liked the privacy. We didn't get to use the screened-in porch since it was winter but I can see how great it would be when the bugs come out in the spring or summer. The kitchen was rustic but serviceable, I so appreciated there being ground coffee to use. Many places don't have even one packet of sugar post-Covid. There were spices and olive oil and skillets. Again, nothing fancy but serviceable. We had trouble getting channels on the TV but we weren't there to watch TV. Ft. Davis Mountains State Park and the McDonald observatory are very close by as is Marfa. The only trouble we had was locking the gate with the chain and combination locks. Not something we are used to being from the big City. Thanks again for hosting us. We will need to come back when it's not so cold and make reservations ahead of time at the observatory.
This place is a gem with stunning mountain views all around. It is also quite secluded yet only a mile or so from Ft. Davis with restaurants and a fairly new grocery store (Porter's). The hiking was awesome with private trails right in your "back yard"---a private ranch with private mountain trails. The state park nearby also offers a variety of hiking trails from easy to moderate to difficult trails. The guest house has a full kitchen, living area, a good size bedroom and bathroom. There is also a screened-in porch on the back. And the night sky views are stunning with zero light pollution in the area. Our host Jenniffer was very responsive and easy to communicate with. This was our second stay here and we'll be back the next time we visit Ft. Davis.
